CA125 questions from my mom
Hi everyone
I am new in this forum. Actually I am posting this for my mom. My mom got the ovarian cancer surgery done back to mar 2015. Before she had the surgery, her CA125 was never over the range. And in the next following two years, her CA125 stays under 35. But the test at the beginning of this month(dec 2017), the CA125 jumped to 40 and half month later which is today, she did the biood test again and shows the number for CA125 is 42. So we just worry about if this indicates that the cancer comes back? Before this month, her recently CA125s are 17, 21, 28 and 28. So as you guys can see it is going up but still under the normal cutoff value 35. Only starts from this month it is out of range. So please anybody can give me some comments what is going on. I really really worried about her. Please.
thanks.

CA-125
ehe,
Sorry about your mom's diagnosis. They use the CA-125 to monitor how well chemo is working and whether the cancer has come back. Things other than cancer, however, can affect the number. Certainly, considering that she just went through treatment, a recurrance is suspect, but the test is not a definitive diagnosis. I would assume her doctor would order a scan to determine whether there is any visible cancer present. Has she considered the HE4 test? It can also indicate whether ovarian cancer might be present.
Good luck
