New lung nodules

in Kidney Cancer #1

I have been NED for the past 4 years and had been doing every months, then 6 months, and then annually.  I was hopefully to stop scans and possibly appointments in January.  I had a chest x ray last week ordered by rheumatologist due to coughing  and thought my RA meds were causing inflammation and the chest x ray found a 9mm nodule. I then had a chest CT with contrast done that showed a 6 mm nodules that had grown 3mm in 1 year.  I have been off of votrient for 2 years. Before coming off the votdidn’t,  I had a lung biopsy that was negative from right side.  I have appt on dec 7 to discuss results and treatment options. Radiologist mentioned wairing 3 months and repeat, PET scan,or biopsy..  just wondering if anyone has had an experi nice similar to this. Thanks for any advice or encouragement.

    Why not get it removed..........

    Were you on Votrient for one lung nodule that had a negatvie biopsy, or did you have other mets elsewhere?  I basically had the same thing went almost 5 years before lung nodules popped up, I elected to have them cut out, rather than go through the side effects of cancer drugs. Going from 6 to 9mm in a year is not a good sign, if it was me id just get it cut out and be done with it. See profile for details. Good luck.

    New lung nodules

    Yes I was on votrient fir 2 years for Mets to the lung.  I came off of it and the. Had a nodule grow that was neagative for cancer. Thanks for the advic

    I had a right lower lung

    I had a right lower lung nodule seen on my CT scan prior to my left radical nephrectomy. My doctors waited till after a month after my surgery to have a follow up CT of the lung nodule the size of which remained unchanged. I was referred to a pulmonary oncologist who did a bronchoscopy with biopsy and the result was inconclusive so I was referred to a thoracic surgeon who ordered PET scan and pulmonary function tests. The PET scan showed either a metastasis or primary metastatic disease. We decided to have the nodule removed. I had the VATS surgery last week with right lower lobectomy. I'm glad we decided to have it removed. I had an appointment today with my medical oncologist to discuss the results of the pathology and treatment plan. I had good news. The cancer was caught early that it was stage 1 and I don't have to have chemo or radiation. I only have to have follow up CT scans and chest x-rays. I'm still sore from the surgery and easily out of breath but I'm glad I had that nodule removed before it grew.

    Cyber Knife?

    I had three nodules radiated with "cyber knife". No side effects, outpatient type proceedure. You might ask if the nodules are in a spot that might be treated this way.

    2 nodules, working on a plan now

    Radical neph. this past January. They found small nodules, one on each lung, growing during one of my follow-up scans at 3 months out. Needle biopsy was inconclusive, and it gave me a pneumothorax that had me in the hospital for a week. PET Scan didn't show anything, but they thought perhaps the nodules were too small for the PET to pick it up. Had a liquiid biopsy, which showed a mutation consistent with clear cell RCC, however, my initial path sample didn't have the same mutation - or at least they didn't find it when they recently checked it. I have the bronchoscopy biopsy scheduled for next week. Hopefully we'll get a clear answer as to what I have - though we are fairly certain it's mets, due to the genetic mutation and no other evidence of growth anywhere. 

    Your radiologist may be suggesting waiting because of the size of the nodule. In my case, the size has so far prevented us from getting any conclusive results. S/he may feel that when it's a little bigger, it will be easier to get a good sample to test.

    Oncology Appt

    He’s not worried about it being cancer. Will follow up in 6 months with a scan.  He put two scans together and there is a very small change.  He said it is way too small to biopsy.
