Lone kidney struggling

Had a Dr. appointment with blood test three weeks after surgery for complete removal of my right kidney.  Surgeon said it went well and he saw no other issues.  Pathology was a 4cm tumor, stage one cancer completely encapsoluted in kidney that was removed.  The Blood test three weeks later indicated lone kidney was struggling so Dr. had reduced much of my medications for Chlestrol and type two diabetes. Have to return in two weeks to get another blood test.  Is this normal?

After thee neph you lose some Kidney function. My creatine lvel went up to about 1.6 and now 15 years ,abel is normal at about 1. I also lost 70 pounds in the last 4 years which helped lower it as well (I think).

    Hi Ken

Yes my husbands lone kidney has had kidney stones and lithotripsy approx. 5 years prior to his nephrectomy this last Sept. His creatinine levels hover around 2.0. He sees his surgeon in about a week and will most certainly be seeing a nephrologist And dietician soon.   Basically his best kidney was taken out with the cancer, now he has ckd stage 3. We try to avoid salt the best we can. Post surgery his bp dropped and his Dr reduced his bp meds to one a day. Do you know your lab numbers?   Hopefully they will level out somewhere better than they are now over time for both you and him. Best of luck to you!

    Kidney Struggling?

What does this mean? What were the test results? Usually creatinine and other kidney test results would be reported.

You might consider seeing a nephrologist if you're really having kidney issues now. Most/many of us end up with Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease. It just means your kidney function is a little below normal

I see a nephrologist every 6 months just to make sure my one good kidney is good. She does tests the regular docs don't to and gives advice about medications that can cause stress on the kidney, etc.
