Looking for guidance
In May 2017, I had a 1.2 cm right kidney tumor removed. The docs had been watching it for 1.5 years with no change. Finally, the anxiety was too much and I had it removed. The path report showed it as a 1.2 cm clear cell Furhman grade 1, stage 1 pt1a. It was cut out using hand sssisted laposcopic procedure. my urologist told me I was cured. I had my 3 month follow up in July 2017 and it stated "healing well, no recurrence". I am very thankful for that. I am only 50 years old.
is there anyone out there with a similar situation that can calm my fears, and give me advice on what they were told and so on and so forth?
thanks

Hi! I just had my left kidney
Hi! I just had my left kidney removed on Nov.7th. 2.8cm clear cell stage 1 grade 2. I just turned 39. You got the best outlook!! From what I am told they got it early, like yours, which is the best. This cancer can come back, but yours was confined to the kidney so waaay less of a chance of that happening. I was told no other treatment necessary, but to be vigilant with follow up scans. I am glad your first one was all clear!!!

My husband was told the same
My husband was told the same thing and he had a 2.9 cm tumor. He had a full nephrectomy. Yours was even smaller than his. It should be considered "curative" surgery. I know it's hard to calm one's fears, but you had the best possible outcome that you could have!

The fear
is the worst thing... the surgery was a mere bump in the road compared with living 24 hours waiting and watching
i wish I knew the answer but to calm your fears
a) 1.2. is a mere dot... Mine was 4.4... but I know when it comes to Rcc you can never assume anything... everyone is different with this type....so what do you ... assume the worst case ...I just hope it’s gets better
b) No growth for 18 months is a very positive sign.. I am so glad you had the surgery... I would have done the same thing...
C) you have three month follow up... are you going to continue on three month schedule.. My mass was a chromophobe which apparently rarely returns...and so I have been put on six month ultrascans... I did ask and get a three month US from whenI was diagnosed so I will have to keep fighting that battle too
I was told mine was gone and that although there is a small chance it may return... there is still a chance so I am trying to relax but I must admit the nightmares and fear has never left me either...
But you are doing the absolute best thing... Yes you sound like you truly are cured taking in all your factors and I truly believe you will never have to deal with this again But cancer does not go by numbers in a book so I know you will be watching and that is the absolute right thing to do.

Time will tell.
Overall you will probably be OK given the early detection and removal of a small tumour.
But be vigilant. RCC is slow growing and it is not unusual to have thing pop up unexpectedly after a couple of years. US is sort of OK but I would recommend CT scans (chest abdomen and pelvis) at least yearly if not at six months.
Just being cautious. If it does re-appear there are now treatments than can probably deal with that, even if not equally in all people.
At 50, you should have many good years left so enjoy what you have and stay positive but also realistic.
