Scared but not hopeless (introduction)

in Colorectal Cancer #1

Hello all,

first of all sorry for my bad english, its not my native language. I found this beautiful forum today. I read a lot of threads and there is a lot of positive people.

I am a 28yo male from Europe. Dont know where to start. I dont have confirmed that I have cancer but I am very scared because I have a few signs. My dad died at age 47 of colorectal cancer. My problems started a month ago. I was hospitalized because of pain in abdoben. First I thought that it is a appendicitis but after CT the doc said I have larger lymf nodes in abdomen area. They thought its a some kind of infection so they gave me some atb. It did not helped so in few days I going to colonoscopy and other screening. My abdomen hurts all day from morning to night. Sometimes its right sides, sometimes its left side higher or lower. I cant specify it exactly. My poop looks OK, but there are days I have the feeling to poop but nothing happen and also it looks like there is a very little ammount of blood.

Why I am here? Because im scared as hell. If its a cancer I dont know how I tell it to my wife and family. My wife is ultra sensitive. Im really worriing how she takes this kind of bad news. Also my friends (we are group of 7 friends more than 25 years). How did you tell this to your family and friends? How they react? Thanks

    Stay positive

    You won’t know what it is yet until the colonoscopy, and CT it may be something else entirely.  If it is Cancer you deal with it and hopefully your friends and family are supportive. The Dr. should be able to tell you everything after the CT. Stay positive.

    Introduce us

    Show this forum to your wife. Tell her that it is filled with folks who are alive and happy and surviving Cancer. Folks who are fighting the fight, but are happy and NORMAL. Folks whose loved ones are in the battle and they are here on the forum to help support them.  

    It is so important for loved ones (and patients) to understand that it is NOT a death scentence. That we suddenly don't become invalid or dying. That we are indeed normal people, living normal lives but dealing with Cancer. 

    And yes, of course at first, the shock of a dignosis is terrible. There is definitely a mourning period, because life won't be the same, but it can be life, and it can be happy. 

    I hope that you find out that you do not have Cancer. But I do hope they find out what it is that ailes you. 

    Don't worry about the language barrier. Your post is perfect, but we've had folks from many different countries, and we always find a way to understand. 

    Be sure to come back and tell us you don't have Cancer. Or, be sure to come back if you do; cause we are here to help you and your loved ones through it.

    Don't get worked up just yet.   Since you had a colonoscopy and they didnt tell you anything that's a huge plus.  Most cases they'll give you the news before you leave while you're in the recovery room if they believe it is colon cancer.  Since nothing was said more than likely, you don't have cancer.  It's fairly easy to spot for all but the newest of medical staff.

    At least for me.  Before hand they said 1/2 the time what was on the scans was nothing.  When I woke up in recovery they told me I had to find a surgeon IMMEDIATELY and gave me phone numbers to call and told me to start before we even got in the car to go home.

    You sound just like what was going on with me..stomach hurt , bloated back pain. And it would change from different parts of stomach. First trip to ER I seen blood in stool did ct and showed not much but cyst on ovaries. Sent home . went back to ER 2 days later more CT scan and made them admit me and did colonoscopy and endoscopy. Just stay calm until colonoscopy , because I think the stress and worrying caused more issues with me . good luck and I will be praying for you.

    Hello everybody. Its not a rectal cancer! Colonoscopy went good and the doc said there is no problem in my colon. So im very happy for this. The problem is that my pain and other sympthoms are still there so I have to go for more screening. Thanks for your support and be brave.

    I hope they can find what's causing your problems and it's something simple!

    There are various possibilities and it could be something like Crohn's and it might take some effort at diagnosis but at least you don't have to worry about cancer and that should be a weight off your mind. Best of luck for finding your problem and fixing it.

    Good news!

    So happy to hear that it is not Cancer.  I hope the Doctors are able to pin down, what is causing you grief. It is so hard, not knowing. 

    We are still here for you, if you need advice on foods and whatnot. But we are happy to say goodbye and wish you a life Cancer free.
