Any Bra recommendations for radiation?
Hi to All....this is my first post. I've had my strong chemo and lumpectomy. My first radiation is this afternoon. Scheduled for 33. I am full-figured and have always worn an underwire bra. I would like to shop for one without the wire due to what I have read about staying away from them. Has anyone found something that they have just loved?? I know that cotton is best but I have a feeling that is hard to find without other materials with it--polyester, spandex, etc. Thank you for any tips!

Bra
Hi Hershey. Good luck with the radiation. As far as bras go, I went without one when at home and I still wore my underwire when I went out and I did not have a problem because my skin was fine. What did you hear about staying away from underwires? I have large breasts and need the support.

I wore the same bras that I
I wore the same bras that I did before UMX. I'm not large breasted though (B). I have always worn (still wear) underwire bras as they are the most comfortable for me and fit the best.
You might try going to a Mastectomy Salon (I know you didn't have a MX) as they have educated fitters that can help you with the size (may have changed). There are bras that are techinically not underwire but are designed with material so they fit similar to underwires. I got talked into trying one and it wasn't bad at all but I still prefer my underwire. Might be an option you would like though. Different bras (even within the same manufacturer) can fit differently. What fits me best depending on the exact bra/brand can run anywhere from a 32 B or C to a 34 A or B. Depends on the the cut of the bra. My good mast. bras, I always try on to be sure they 'fit' me AND my pros. I do sometimes find cute/pretty real inexpensive 'up lift' bras at WalMart (or similar stores) that work great when I pull the 'uplift pad' out to put my pros in. There are many options/possibilities for what works best for any of us - it takes time to learn what is best for us indiviually, not what is 'right' for anyone else. We are each so unique.

Soft Tank Tops
I am small breasted,so a soft tank top under whatever I wore was easiest for me. I did feel a bit uncomfortable being out in public without a bra, but I wanted to avoid the skin problems that a bra rubbing during radiation can cause. Best of luck to you during radiation!!

Soft cotton wire free bra
I wore a soft cotton hook down the front wire free bra. It was a Hanes brand ( I think). I bought about 3.I wore them after surgery and I wore them throughout radiation. I liked the bra because it was easy to wash( I was obsessive about putting on the creams) and it didn't chaff. Not very pretty but they did the job. Love surf

It's not in my radiation literature from the hospital about not wearing the underwires---I don't remember where I read that! The underwire has never bothered me as it does others so I'll just keep wearing what I have. Thanks!

Thank You!
I appreciate everyone's suggestions! Going to the cancer-care shop in our hospital is a good idea...to at least see what they have. They may also have some suggestions on other non-mastectomy bras to try. I have always hated trying on bras!!
Thanks for the concern and prayers, that helps a lot. Today was radiation #4 out of 33! Yay!! No problems.
