Home Now
I have no idea if what I posted before even made sense lol. (thanks to all the meds). I just got home and will try this again...
The tumor had grown since being found in August. According to the CT scan images they should have been able to cut out a certain-sized wedge and see clean kidney. However, everytime they cut it was still tumor. It went deeper than the images had shown. They had to remove the whole kidney because not much was left after achieving a clear area.
I have walked as much as possible. The nausea was awful yesterday and the worst today. I have taken all of your advice and def appreciate it. I will be honest and say at times the pain has been excruciating. Certain movements are way more painful. It still is not reality that I have lost the kidney.
Thank you all for the encouragement and kind words. It adds strength!!! Every minute and every step is bringing me closer to a normal, healthy life again.
Anyone who is currently healing or about to experience this....take all the help and encouragement you can get. We cannot do this alone. All the best to you xo.

Hang in there. The pain will
Hang in there. The pain will definitely lessen. The first week is the toughest, especially getting in and out of bed. So sorry you had to lose the kidney but if he couldn't get clear margins that would have been way worse. You'll be so much better being home. Keep well!

It gets much easer...
I'm glad you're home and on the mend. The pain meds made me nauseous too, so I wouldn't take them. You'll feel much better, just listen to your body and get ready for the fatigue. It has taken me a couple of weeks to get my energy back. You'll do just fine....

Glad you're home!
And listen to Fox, and don't push too hard. As my favorite musician used to sing, "All good things in all good time." You've got this!

Whew!! Glad its over and you
Whew!! Glad its over and you are home and not on hospital staff's schedule!
Have you tried ice? ICE< ICE ICE~ And I used that lumbar wrap to hold and supportthose aching, sore abdominal muscles/tissues
It helped me get UP from sitting and laying down.
And I wonder if some of this pain is also related to that trapped gas.
Yes, that hurts, a lot! BUT its gas and it will leave ...takes a few days unfortunately.
First week is a challenge.
Sorry you lost your kidney, but now you have your LIFE!
Cancer goes with that kidney was my mindset! I'm nearly 4 years NED.
Sending you healing hugs, kindness .. but please do not rush this recovery.

Good you are home
Hello AnnissaP it must be good to be home you can relax and breathe deeply and start the long and gentle road to recovery, little by little, step by step, no need to push too hard.
Most ongoing pain for me (well over 4 weeks) was getting in and out of bed. You might have already read my post about it but here is the link in case you haven't.
https://csn.cancer.org/comment/1601244#comment-1601244Try to think smart if you are having pain with other movements, think what you can do to minimise the pain. Have you sneezed yet? It's a killer. Press down in preparation, same for a cough.

Bless you for a speedy recovery.Thank you for the kind words. The bed part IS the killer. Wow! I will read your posts. You are right about the ptsd part. Our bodies heal, but what about the mental and emotional aspect? For me, reality still hasn't settled in. Kidney cancer. Surgery. Yeah right!?! It is all too crazy. So good of you to bring that up in conversation. You could really help a lot of ppl. Thanks again.
