Surgery Completed!!
Quick update! Had surgery yesterday and they ended up taking the whole kidney. Three mths ago the tumor was only 3.6 cm. It ended up being deeper than originally thought. He said it took up 1/3 of the kidney. I will ask dr the size today. Yesterday he was puzzled and said he has NO IDEA now what it is. It has been sent off and I will have results in 2-3 weeks. Will update more in a few days...maybe lol

So glad your surgery is over. I'm thinking that if it grew that fast it just might be a cyst. RCC grows very slowly. In any case, wishing you a quick uneventful recovery xo
Hi! Spoke with him today and understood more (rather than 2nd hand info). He said it was not that it grew a crazy amount, it was just way deeper than they originally thought. Apparently took up 1/3 of kidney. He said he wanted to be on the safe side and leave everything clear. He tried removing it from the front of the kidney then the back. Unfortunately he was not able to.

Nurse had me get out of bed today to freshen up in the washroom and sit up in a chair. She took out the catheter and had me walk down the hall. That was def a challenge!!
The cather removal was the worse part for me ..lol. Yes it was a challenge for me 2 because of all thos pain pills they give you. Once I got off them I was able to function my new normal. I know that I was told my pathology would take a while but they ended up getting it back after a few days to confirm that clear cell renal was removed . I also went in thinking a complete nerphrectomy was possible..ended up taking 1/3 of my kidney as it was 6 cm. Stastically our prognosis is it will never return . The important part now is keeping infection away, I have been extremely sanitary and have found that once you have staples removed and your hunger, bowel function , and walking return , all that is left is few months of internal healing. Sounds like your doing really well and you will be home restign in no time .

Ah, I see. I'm glad he was playing safe. Saw below that cath is out and you're up and walking a bit. That's good! Drink lots of water too. All that best!

Happy Surgery Went Well
I also remember how challenging just getting out of bed and sitting in a chair was. Hang in there, everyday you will move a little more and get a little stronger. It does, however, take time and patience but you'll get there. Pretty soon you will be doing a lap around the ward. One lap will turn into two laps and then you will be on your way home.

Great job Annissa
Sorry you lost the whole kidney but if that's the only way to get that little troublemaker out, then that's the best option. Sounds like you're doing great in your recovery process. Do your deep breathing exercises, walk, walk, walk, and don't forget to rest too. Your body has just been through a major event and rest is very important for healing.
God bless,
Donna~
