Getting ready to head in.
Getting ready to head in. Bringing the cell but I don't know that they have wi-fi or even a signal there to post from. At the radiation center there wasn't and here who knows. I would think they don't want cell phones going off every 10 seconds. It's about 5 am here and I'm due to arrive at 6:30. Nevous and at the same time optomistic. We'll see how this goes. I expect to be out sometime this afternoon. I'll keep everyone posted. Keep up the faith.

All of the hospitals that I’ve dealt with lately have had WiFi. My radiation center didn’t. They will take your cell, clothes, shoes, etc for surgery and check valuables so it might be a bit before you get them back.
Best if luck and wishes in your surgery and we’ll see you on the other side. You may be quite out of it and I will certainly understand if it’s a day or two or three before seeing you. I do recommend short and sweet at first.4

Woo hoo!darcher said:Did the surgery and went off
Did the surgery and went off without a hitch. They do epidermal which is kinda nice. No bag, no complications, and was done inside 3 hours. Wasn’t so bad after all. I’ll post more of the play by play in a while
That was quick, and you don't even sound drowsy.
Still, be good to yourself, and take care not to overdo it, while making sure you walk plenty.

Outstanding stuff and you seem a lot more lucid than I was in the evening. Get some rest and take your time posting.

Did some laps around this
Did some laps around this floor. Found the coffee machine, thank god. Just got a shot of something that starts with “H” Hepiderm or something In my stomach. It’s for blood clots as said by nhmike. From what they’re telling me I might be out of here monday morning. The pain medicine is not narcotic. I guess the hope is that by doing an epidermal that it won’t put the intestines to-sleep speeding up recovery. I’m already bored and it’s only been 3 hours. I also know that I don’t know so I won’t force the issue. Doctors orders Getting the usual praises from hospital staff so that isn’t helpful. Well see what happens next. i do have staples. My first real battle scar, lol

Good to hear!
Whenever someone in this forum experiences a positive outcome the relief is shared by all. I feel good knowing that your surgery was without incident, pain and especially a bag.
Follow their instructions. Your immediate and most important task is to recover from the surgery so you can return to normalcy as soon as possible. Trade a little inactive time now for a lot more active time later. Congratulations.

It sounds like their surgical
It sounds like their surgical approach works, or you're in better shape than I am. I could not get out of bed the day of the surgery. There's a lot of education that they're going to give you (you may have had some in pre-op), and you should try to get it down by the time you leave. They may give you a Visiting Nurse to help out at home but ideally you'd have it down cold by the time that you leave. Yeah, it's heparin. Hopefully you don't have to inject yourself with it when you get home. That seems to have only happened to me here.
It can also be a stimulative environment (the nurses were very chatty) and sometimes not getting enough sleep catches up with you. There's some work in sending emails or making phone calls to friends and family too. Great job!

i suspect they were trying
i suspect they were trying out a new type of anethesia process. Im using their in room compuror to type this and can't reallly see the words to well. Screen is up on the wall. Im trying to slow myself down a little bit. I didn't see one other person on this floor ias mobile as I was today so maybe Im over doing it,. I did throw up eating a big mac but what was really odd is I ididn;'t get the usual cramping and so forth sensations just prior. From one moment to the next it just came up. When I get the Hemprin shots I dont feel anything at all. I suspect it's the meds masking the pain a bit too much. I should have been doubled over but I wasnb't so that kind of scarred me. However, there was no dietary restrictions. After the recovery room they had me on Ox and had those leg compression things on. I had the oxygen removed and they were ok with my reaction along with the leg constrates. taken off . Next item was the BP, oxygen saturator ,and heart rate monitor.
This is where it gets strange. At first nothing was going on with it and that was just prior to me "really" waking up. I went and got coffee and was just cruising aroung the floor and some of the looks I got were shocked as if I wasn;'t supposed to be doing that. . Fact is., I didn't feel a thing. It wasn't all peaches though. There must have been some left over material in the colon because at one point it all came out while I was sitting on the bed. I thought it was just gas but the bad thing was I had zero control over it. Like when I thre up a little later, this just came out. This I believe is attributable to the epidral Anyhow, after making a few trips for coffee etc the machine started going off with an alarm. Low pressure and or heart low rate.
Nurses had to come in a couple times and piior to that they had a "risk of fall" tag on me. One of three tags I got in preop, That was because my BP fell beloww 100 and heart rate under 60. I guess they figure you're much more likely to collapse. The nurses disconnected the machine knowing that I wasn't a risk after seeing me make the trips down the hall. The nurses were a little concerned that I was able to get around with such a low BP and I did fib a little bit saying it wasn't uncommon for that to happen. I had a strong suscpion as to what it was.
On the one hand having an anathesia that strong seems like a blessing but I got a feeling I'm going to pay for it once the chemical bag goes empty. Then again, my big fear (the colostomy bag) was avoided. That was about the only stress I had and with it gone, I would expect the vitals to relax a bit. I came through this with no black marks. It almost seems unfair. In all honesty, it probably is and why I was blessed with a clean escape I don't know. I expect to find out soon enough. Nothing is free and this has a steep price I'm sure.
