in Colorectal Cancer #1

Not a happy scan at all.  Was my mistake, I was actually thinking I was going to have a clean scan.  Still hoping some other causes for what showed up.  Maybe something not mentioned in all the other reports but was there (benign nodule anyone?) and that lymph nodes, which often are the ones where mets go, is just infection.  Both can happen.  Meeting with doctor next week.

    We miss seeing you on the forum, but its a good sign. So, we'd rather not see you here than have you post this news.

    But, like Kim said and like you are hoping, lets hear from the Doc, before getting too upset (too late, right?!!).  Nah! Thats a silly thing for me to say, because I have been exactly where you are now. Mine was CEA. A jump from 0.5 to 9. I told myself it was just a mistake, an anomoly, so I paid $400 to have it retested; it had jumped to 19. 

    Its a gut punch, and there is no way around that or around the fact that you will live on that knife edge until you hear good or bad news. 

    We will sit on that knife edge with you, New. Here is praying for good news, or at the worst, the better end of bad news.

    sometimes nodules are benign though. It's easy for me to say not to worry, so I won't. I hope the Dr is able to say it's nothing.

    I have been around, just not posting quite as much.  Seemed to be more questions I could not help with for a bit in terms of experience etc. among other things.  Then seeing the news on John, plus bumps of older threads and seeing a couple of names.  Sometimes a breather from this is needed for a bit.  

    @Tru and eveyone.  I am trying to stay positive.  There was a slight uptick that dropped on one test (blood work) a few months ago.  Then a different blood test about three weeks ago (different cancer.)  

    On the one thing in the lung I am not too concerned because I think there is enough wiggle room between size of nodule, timing of test and contrast, reading issues (could be on other report because similar spots described in size, location not quite as specific, but could be radiologist just describing more, etc.)  

    The other thing, however, is a bit more concern.  There are various things that can cause it.  Infection, certain diseases, diverticulitis (or other digestive issues), Epstein Barr, etc.. (I would not be shocked if last two)  But it is also something associated with mets from cancer, including the two I have.  And one blood test was wonky (doubled, not CEA) a couple of weeks ago.  Scheduled to CEA this week.  So more so just being braced for it. 

    I do feel "happy" in that I am pretty sure they will be watching pretty closely when I meet with them and this will be figured out.

    Bummer.  Inoperable.  Will see how long chemo works when I go back on.  Still a chance it is nothing, and there will be some more things to check, but doctor was pretty clear.

    But there are others here who have been told inoperable, and have had surgery, so you know, don't give up.  OK, I know you're not giving up, but just saying.

    This one was tough.  The last three years was since I am in good health, even if it comes back, we can get rid of it.  But this is one of the rarer and messed up mets.  K-rap.

    Sorry to hear the news wasn't  what you'd hoped for and  am hopeful that the new chemo treatment will shrink it or make it manageable. And as you said, more tests may show that it is nothing.       Sending postitive thoughts your way.

    I fully understand the news of a return of the "C" monster, but stay strong and positive.  We here are praying for you.  My situation is proof that treatment does work even in battling multiple times.  Stage 3 in 2006, return as Stage 4 in 2013, and return again as Stage 4B this year....now NED.  The immediate news is a blow, but once it passes you can focus on the fight ahead.

    Sorry, nothing like a bad test or scan to throw your mojo out of whack. Hope it turns out better. It just shows how we have to be mentally ready for that setback, though I'm not sure how that is possible, a mixture of hope and fatalism? I don't know, but getting ready for hernia surgery in Dec. I'm reminded that I can't look past the next scan and blood panel, stuff happens. I'll be looking to read about a good outcome for you NewHere, you have my thoughts...............................Dave

    News like that is gut wrenching.  But, there is always something that can be done and I'm sure they've told you that already.  Focus on that because usually it works out if you follow through.

    Unfortunately

    It seems to be more than just now.  The location is a place where it is too difficult and risky to do even a needle biopsy, let alone surgery.  Under the best case scenario, if it was in a slightly different location, it is 4-6 hours cut up the entire middle of me and stay in hospital for a long time.  With little chance of it doing anything since it is out and running.  Kind of bumming right now Flip, seems like yesterday you welcomed me here (over two and half years ago), together with Tru and some others.  

    Trying for second opinons (though I doubt it would change), working on alternative treatments to stall things and fingers crossed for some kind of break through.  Otherwise most of the time (barring some luck and chemo working longer) I have about 12-18 months.  Of which most will be on chemo.  But I am not giving up.

     wonder if one of the big cancer centers ( Sloan, MD Anderson etc) could offer you a different treatment and more hope.
