I am a new member who is one year out of treatment. I just found out today that I have developed CML, which is a chronic form of leukemia. It is apparently easy to manage and treat but it just kind of discourages me because I thought once I took care of the colon cancer, I would be NED.
I will be posting in the Leukemia discussion board as well since that is where I fit now. I just keep wondering if this could have been caused by anything I received in treatment last year.

I'm in treatment now and
I'm in treatment now and definitely worried about the potential for spread. I don't know enough about cancer to know whether or not CRC can cause Leukemia but I've never heard of this happening before. The usual forms of Metastisis are relatively well-known I think. I have a friend that has lung cancer and he's basically on the chemo for life program until a cure or procedure can be found to eradicate the tumor. We talk from time to time about a lot of things. I hope things work out well for you with this new problem.

Chemo
The chemo itself MAY have caused the Leukemia.
I am so very sorry to hear your new diagnosis. It is so terribly unfair. Its bad enough having Cancer once, and then for it to spread; but to get a secondry Cancer. Well, thats sad.
I hope the new forum will give you just what you need to get through this new challenge.
May you soon be NED again. Keep us updated, we're invested in your life now (and you have such a wonderful forum name).

Thank you, Tru - you have truly been a welcoming voice on this forum! I had a good night's sleep and am facing the future as best I can. I am glad that even though I have developed leukemia, it is still in the chronic stage and easily managed. I have thought that the chemicals I had last year could have done something, but I don't intend to dwell on it. At this point, I am very happy with my new oncologist and I am sure he will take good care of me. This is a disease that used to be invariably fatal, but is now a chronic illness that can be managed with a daily pill.

I am happy to hear that you go forward with a positive outlook.
I have a friend, here in town, who also has chronic leukemia. She is in her 80's and very frail. She looks like she could drop at any time, but my oh my! She is one strong woman. She does not let her tiny frame and the fact that she has Cancer, stop her one bit. She does things (as in community work) that I've seen younger, healthier women shy away from.
Yes, one pill a day, that will do it.
You will do well - though its still not fair to get loaded with yet another Cancer diagnosis -
