Post Nephrectomy bp & thyroid changes
Husband had routine visit with pcp today one month after nephrectomy for rcc. Bp is running so low Dr is cutting bp meds in half, previously had a hard time controlling bp, may stop taking synthroid since labs now proving taking almost too much medication. Waiting to see creatinine levels on next blood draw, he was running stage II ckd before finding tumor with 2 kidneys. Hope the one kidney can keep up. Anyone else have fairly drastic changes in bp or labs post nephrectomy? Thank you in advance.

Welcome Optimisticgirl !!
Sorry for what your husband and you are going through. Renal cancer and operation is enough, eh?
Glad he is being followed closely as you don't want BP affected in any negative way. Do you have a BP cuff at home?
No, I didn't have any problems like this, but I already have an unusual autonomic condition so I have to be monitored closely.
I had a nephrectomy and other kidney continues to work just fine.
Hope you two get through this time and stabalize this situation.
Here for YOU all the way! You are a wonderful wife!
Sending you healing hugs,

Life with one kidney
I had my left kidney removed in 2012. I also had stage II tumor, contained in the kidney with nothing found in the surrounding lymph nodes. I started with a higher dose of blood pressure medicine than I take now. It is very controlable. Did not start having thyroid issues until I started taking Votrient about 2 1/2 years ago. Before the votrient my thyroid was normal, but suppression of thydroid hormoes is common side effect of Votrient. My creatinie stays within at range of 1.8 to 1.5 or thereabouts. It really depends on how hydrated I am at the time of my blood tests. I can spike higher every now and then, but stays pretty stable. My nephologist is happy with it so I don't worry too much. has been stable for the last 5 or more years. Hope this is helpful.

Yes he has had high blood pressure for years prior to diagnosis, just finding it odd that bp has dropped so much after nephrectomy, everything I have read anticipated raised bp. So we have several bp cuffs around the house just hanging out. :-)
Hearing from people like you that have been through this, help keep my nerves in check. Much appreciated!

Thank you Rob57
I enjoy reading others stories of beating this disease. I just hope his creatinine levels can come to rest near yours. Kind of all over the board lately, but only 1 month post op, so time will tell. As with you, I too am calmer the more I read and try to learn. Thank you for sharing your story and wishing you continued success with your treatment.
