Mouth sores

Really didn't get too much help from cancer center I went to.   I knew a compounding pharmacist so I called him, told him all my mouth problems and he made me a mouth wash esp for me.  It worked pretty well. Helped shrink sores, cured sore throat.  Don't fall for the magic mouthwash.  Pharmacist told me there are a hundred recipes for that.  Before u get chemo. Seek out a compounding pharmacist.  They won't tell u about them nor will they offer u help unless u ask.  At least the place I went to weren't very helpful with addressing issues before they happen.  The sore I got in my mouth was no joke and they didn't care when I complained.  It was my own knowledge that helped me.  Cancer center was not proactive with pain relief or any kind of relief.  I hope not all centers are like mine but I can't help but wonder.  They finally did something about terrible bone pain from neulasta and nausea after a month. They will have to give ok for mouth wash but didn't have problems   They even admitted they knew about this pharmacist.   It was $45 a month for mouthwash.    Pharmacist told me that chemo can cause mouth to grow bacteria. Fungus. And virus.   Worked for me.  Hope it works for you

    Where do you find a compound pharmacist? I don't have mouth sores, but I do get sore throats being on oral chemo. Drives  me crazy! Thanks!  Kats2

    This compounding pharmacy is called Fisher Buderer Drug . It's located in Sandusky, Ohio. They also have one in Perrysburg, Ohio. I'm sure there are other compounding pharmacies across the country. Maybe thru internet you can find one near you. I know they mail prescriptions.  Phone is  419-626-4286   They may be able to fill your prescription. You have to have a script from Dr. What he does for me is fax what he wants to make for you to your Dr, and then it gets the ok, so then he fills it. You can call them, ask for Jim or whoever is the pharmacist that day and they can tell you what to do. Maybe they know of a pharmacy closer to you if you live far from Ohio. I hope this helps. Pass this along to whoever has mouth problems from chemo. I helped me a lot. I ended up in ER when I couldn't swallow at all.  This mouth wash prevents that. These are the things they don't tell you about before you start chemo. Everybody is all worried about loss of hair, but that is the least of the problems you will have.  I hope I have helped you

    mouth sores and MuGard

    Try MuGard.  I went from not being to to swallow, needing IV hydration, to no problems what so ever.  I had a different kind of cancer but this stuff is a miracle worker..  I used it 2 years ago and it was a free sample from my radiologist. It was hard to get and I have never been so grateful in my life! I see coupons online for it to reduce cost.  Magic mouthwash provided minimal help but allowed me to get liquids down because of the lidacaine in it.  Mugard coats your mouth with some kind of high tech bio polymer.  I swallowed one dose of it.  Felt bad wasting the rest of the bottle but I was was desperate and swigged it right out of the cap and never needed another dose!! UGGGHH  Week 5 round 2 of chemo I had zero mouth issues.  Plenty of other ones like neutrapenic fever, but thank heavens none of the debilitating mouth sores of Week 1 Round one.  I"m not sure why I havent thrown it away because it worked so well!!(and it has expired)

    For me it was not mouth sores and it did not happen right away.  Mine was in my throat and it took me forever to get answers.  My ENT found it.

    Mouth sores

    I worked for several years as an RN on a hemetology/oncology floor with pediatric patients., one of the very best things for mouth sores is good old fashioned warm salt water. Rinse the mouth out thoroughly 4 or 5 times a day with a 5 or 6 ounce cup of warm salt water. Put a teaspoon or so in it. You should be able to taste the salt. Keep swishing around solution in mouth, then spit it out. Do this until whole glass is gone. Repeat religiously 4 or 5 times a day. I also worked with bone marrow transplant patients, as well as my baby brother had a transplant in 1980. This is also what we were told to do for mouth care. Noone's immune system is worse than a bone marrow transplant patient. Try it, it works!
