Question, once cancer, always cancer? ???
So my urologist told me after removing my left kidney with 9 cm tumor that now I was cancer free. Are we cancer free once the tumor is removed?
Thanks friends

It depends
For many of us with tumors 4 cm or under, you are likely to remain Cancer free for the rest of your life. For those with larger and/or more agressive tumors there is always a chance that it will spead. Each case is different and unique. There are protocols for follow up depending on the size and pathology of each tumor. There also are limitations/prohibitions on donating blood or organs.

I am asking my Doc this next week. I just had a partial with a 4.5CM tumor removed on Sept 6. I was under the impression that once you have a cancer diagnosis you can't donate organs or blood etc... Does anyone knoe if this is true?
I don't know about the USA but in my country it's true.

Mine was 4.5 CM
I am 9 days post op of a partial. Surgeon didn't take any lymph nodes because he said my tumor size wasn't something that would have spread yet. I already know my lungs and liver are clear. I am a worrier so I keep lymph nodes in my mind since they were not checked.

What is NED? I got out my
What is NED? I got out my radiology report from the Ct with contrast to look up the specifics on location to answer another members ? About my tumor and read the lymph nodes were normal and didn't show signs of enlargement. So that made me feel better.

My experience..............
has been, Urologists like to tell you your cancer free, Oncologists like to tell you your NED, and Pulmonary Surgeons like to say we need to keep a real close eye on you, even when they cant find anything to keep an eye on. Keep your sense of humor or you will go crazy worrying about the future which you cant control anyways.
