Port Removal

in Colorectal Cancer #1

I saw my oncologist last month and although white and red cell counts are low, he casually mentioned that it's been over a year since my surgery and the start of my original chemo and that I could get my port removed any time.

I'm scheduled for next week. I can hardly believe it. This time last year I was feeling pretty bad and now I'm so much better. I never thought I would get here. Hoping for more years NED me and for all of us.

    That is wonderful news when that port can come out it is a very happy and scary time.  Enjoy the "happy."  Congratulations.

    Kim,

    You are so right. On the one hand, I'm very happy to get this thing out. It's a dual port so it's twice the size of a single and it just represents everything bad about cancer. On the other hand, I'm scared that it's too early. I wish I felt like I was truly done but I'm so afraid that getting this out will jinx things.

    Let us Know

    Please let us know how it goes.  You'll do fine and be so glad when it's gone.  It's scary but you will feel a great sense of relief when it's gone - it might take a couple days or weeks to get used to it being gone but you will eventually embrace the removal.  Good luck and prayers are with you.

    Yay! I'm so happy for you! I was so glad to get rid of my port. Now the scar is barely noticable. It was a positive step and I'm thrilled for you!
