Been a while
I haven't been on here in forever. I was diagnosed in 2008, and have been cancer free for about 8 yrs now. I do have significant damage to my nerves systemically. I now have been diagnosed with Parkinsonism which they believe is induced by oxaliplatium.

Congratulations!
Great to hear about you being cancer free for 8 years! Sorry to hear about the Parkinsons. Never knew that was a risk from that medication. I hated the Oxi too. How many treatments did you have?
I was diagnosed at stage 4 in March 2016 and had 8 treatments with Oxaliplatin and all the other IV chemos that go along with it. I'm on Xeloda and Avastin for the rest of my life, and am conerned about long terms side effects.
Finding this site has given me so much hope for long term survival. It is so good to hear from long term survivors. Please keep on posting from time to time.

That's Bittersweet News
My diagnosis was also diagnosed in 2008 and I've also sustained nerve damage due to the oxy. I'm on medication every day just to try to keep my feet and hands from driving me crazy everyday. I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis. My oncologist just told me that my reaction to oxy was just a nuisance - really? When leaving that office for the last time my last statement to her was that "it wasn't a nuisance" it is now bothering me everyday and her reaction was "yes, there is more evidence now." I'm hoping that you can keep that disease in check and still enjoy being cancer free.
Hugs! Kim

I'm glad to read your still
I'm glad to read your still clear and sad that the oxi has done that to you. I think they're getting close to having targeted immunotherapy as a new treatment, so someday soon platinum based chemo may get retired, and not do this to any more people.................................Dave

Good to see that you are still with us . I am sorry about the collateral damage, it seems to be part of our right of passage. I still have severe neuropathy and have auto immune kidney liver and heart problems but with a bit of luck on the 22nd Jan next year I will end year 20 of cancer free survival. Congratulations to you ,best wishes Ron.

Ron, not to get off target here, but what kind of honking fish is that in your picture. We don't have that species around where I live.

Hi Phoenix
It is an estuary cod. They are a common species in the rivers creeks and estuaries of Queensland on the east coast of Australia. They live in the creeks for most of their early life living on crabs prawns and small fish. When they reach about ten pound they move offshore to the close reefs where they can reach up to 100lb . This one was 35lb and was taken off the Caloundra twelve mile reef 75 kilometers north of Brisbane. I would have let him go but they suffer barra trauma when caught on the deeper reefs ( gas expands in there blood stream from rapid pressure change) . They are quite good eating. It was not wasted and was enjojed by the crew of what was referred to as the death ship by my other fishing friends. Me with colon cancer, Tommy with double lung cancer and Ray with sextuple heart by pass and diabetes. Sadly they are both gone but we made some good memories while we were able. Ron.
