Stage 4 with mets - in remission!!

Hello, All!

Husband has been within death due to his cancer in day, minutes, even seconds on multiple times since this past September.  Not the kind of message you share a lot here.  But I have come here for support often.  This message I MUST share!!

Today, we are in remission!!  Treatment "paused" until CAT scan in 2 months.  Other treatment options available if, when, cancer might be active again.

For newer members, I hope you see the light at the end of the tunnel which we have found.  His original cancer was quite advanced when found.  Aggressive primary tumor with mets found a year and a half ago.  Husband has tolerated these past years with little to no complaints, staying as active as his 72 year age would allow.  Now he is off for another walk around the neighborhood.

God bless you all in your own treatment experiences.  Thanks to this group for just being here.

Crystal

    oral quamous cell carcinoma

my husband Larry was diagnosed on May 30th with Oral squamous cell carcinoma HPV positive. He is on #10 radiation treatment and is about to do 2nd of three doses of Sisplatin Chemo. He has had a really rough time. first 6 days after chemo he was sick and lost 19lbs. he got off the nausea meds they had him on , and he got better and could eat. He is now starting to feel the side effects from the radiation , neck is soar and throat is starting to hurt. All taste is gone and white patch inside of mouth has also begun. Does anyone have any helpful advice on how to make it through this?? He has a total of 35 rad treatments so 25 to go still and hes down a bit and tired of doing this already. Need helpful tips on how to help him ???

Please start this as a NEW thread, rather than a comment on this thread.  I'm afraid your post will be lost here.

l am so sorry you are going through this.  It is important to eat as much as possible to maintain weight, but also to keep those neck muscles working.  My husband lost over 100 lbs and has been on a feeding tube for 6 years now.  Even now we are trying to keep his weight up.  We used Aquafor for radiation burns with very good success.  Others have used other products and many threads discuss this.  If you do a search just for Aquafor, I am sure several threads will come up discussing this.

Do not be afraid to use proscribed pain medication.

The white patch could be an indication of Thrush, common with treatment.  It can be quite painful.  Be sure to have doctor look at this as it is treatable.

Many here will tell you that getting through the treatment is really rough, BUT they all got through to the other side and the starting to heal again.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Crystal

    Fantastic!

Congratulations to you both! It is wonderful to have positive results!!! We are almost done with the first round of a new phase I targeted chemo trial, it looks to me like my husbands neck is not as swollen. It was a rocky week with side effects, and a PET first week in August, but I can just feel good things from this!!! Opdivo was what they had him on previously and it just wasn't enough, but this one I think may give the cancer a run for its money. Your story encourages all of us here!!! Continued good luck!!!

Today's CT scan results - still in remission - doctor amazed by his continued healing of primary site.

We are to see ENT next week for possible improvement of face paralisis and improved eating.  Hoping to share good news of treatment options after cancer treatment.
