Symptoms of Nasopharyngeal cancer

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Hi all,

I am curious as to what your symptoms were leading up to your diagnosis. I have a good friend who has an appointment with her doctor because she is concerned about this type of cancer. She has been reading websites about the topic and is worried sick. She is wondering if it is possible to have distant spread without having any lymph node involvement? Thank you for any answers you can provide.

    I didn't feel myself for about 2 months before

    I was diagnosed.  More tired, ears were ringing.  My first REAL clue was a lump in my neck, which is the same first clue for many types or head and neck cancer.  Distant spread comes from lymph node involvement....so your friend should stop worrying about that....actually she should quit reading the internet, and make an appointment with an ENT.  Chances are she doesn't have any type of cancer....

    The more she worries about it the more it will make her sick. Tell her to just keep her faith in God by praying every day.

    Numb tooth

    Hi Eddie. Many people with head and neck cancers have no symptoms from the primary site of the cancer and the first thing they find is a lymph node from metastatic spread. My primary was in my nose and I got a numb tooth from bone invasion but no nose or bone pain. Phrannie is right to suggest an ENT opinion if your friend is worried.

    Cancer of the nasel cavity

    has anyone had this type of cancer? Presents in the from of the nose. Would like to here from anyone with any information and symptoms .

    I had (well, not sure yet

    I had (well, not sure yet waiting for my 16 week post treatment scan) a high grade undifferentiated nasalpharyngeal carcinoma. 

    Initial symptoms were:

    • Felt like I had permanent boogers I could not clear no matter what.
    • Sinus pressure and headaches that got worse during elevation changes
    • Muffled, ringing ears
    • Weight loss

    This was November 2017,  the heart of cold season so intially everyone thought I needed antibiotics and a decongestant. Then my neck nodes grew into walnuts. They gave me a different antibiotic.

    Third neck node popped up and I started hacking up fresh blood. Thats when I had a biopsy done and got the news. Perscription was chemoradiation.

    Newly diagnosed .

    I had my NPC diognose on july 28th 2017.

    My lymph nod is a size of a bean .my 1st encologist appt is tomorrow.please share some experiences with me im new here.

    Welcome to the forum, so sorry to hear that you are having to start this journey. This forum is a great place to get support, ask questions, and locate some practical tips for what you may be starting. I am caregiver to a Wonderful husband/ father to four children under 18. We are young. He was diagnosed when he was 43. This is our second time around. He was diagnosed Stage IV NPC squamous cell metastatic to lymph nodes. He completed chemo and radiation And we enjoyed his year and 1/2 remission only to learn it has come back in bone and now liver.  The chemo was rough but anticipate a bigger struggle with radiation. Create yourself a village and have a really strong caregiver. if your oncologist at any point suggests a g-tube if you are going to get radiation, get it, sooner is better, do all your nasal rises faithfully, magic mouth wash is exacly that, mucousitis is horrible, get an order for a suction machine, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. If you, like us, find that it reoccurs learn all you can about clinical trials, and CT scans are essential. We are here, we hope all goes well for you.
