    Thanks for replying, Tucdon.

Thanks for replying, Tucdon.  My husband has to have a biopsy to determine if it is transitional cell or renal cell.  If it is transitional cell, his entire kidney, plus the ureter, has to be removed.  If it's renal cell, they can do a partial nephrectomy.  From what I understand, transitional cell carcinoma acts more like a bladder cancer rather than a true kidney cancer, so there's a possibility that this type of cancer can come back in the bladder.  It may never recur though, especially if it's caught early.

    Post-surgery...

I found that being at home alone did weird things to my ability to focus and think clearly. Being exhausted also impacted that. Of course, getting out of the house, especially getting into the out-of-doors (whee!), was a great help towards my mind functioning better, but it was also a big energy (which I didn't yet have) drain as well.

It does take time, but you'll get there.

    Give it a little time...

It's never easy, but the tough times pass. In 2006 they took my left kidney, I was 54. After 5 weeks, I was still hurting and scared. The 10th week I was back to work. After 12 weeks, I felt reasonably normal and living normal. Hang in there. There some much good information here.

It took months for me to feel normal. I went back to work after 6 weeks, but I got extremely tired by 4-5pm. I think the body takes a few months to adjust. Your outside heals faster than your insides. My theory is that it takes awhile for your body to get adjusted to the 1 kidney. Up to a year I had weird symptoms. I had something like vertigo a few times. I had numbness on my abdomen that is still there (but got better over time). I had tiredness for 3-4 months. I just didn't feel good for a long time.

I've heard transitional cell responds to more traditional chemo like bladder cancer and that treatments that are available may be more effective at getting rid of it.

    Wishing you the best,

    Todd

Hi Tucdon, I had my right

Hi Tucdon, I had my right kidney removed in October of 2016. It was rough for the first month but little by little, I gained strengh. I did not have mental exhaustion, but I went into a depression which lasted for three months or so. It took some time to get over every thing and return to my life. You will get stronger. You just go to give it time.

    Best wishes on your recovery.

    Your Own Time

I was supposed to recover in 72 hours, and it took me about two weeks. We all heal at our own rate, and your body is trying to get you to slow down.

If it feels unnatural, talk to your doctor. At least you'll have an idea if another patient has has a similar issue.
