Well looks like my son's cancer is back

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

He was doing remarkably well. Back at work only 1 month after all his treatments.

He called me a few weeks ago to say he noticed a lump on his testicle.

June 13th he went back to the cancer centre and they did the tests to see if he was in remission etc. Two specialists came to see him. He has been complaining of a swollen testicle, a lump there, abdomen pain and now blood in his urine. He is not sexually active and they have ruled out an STD.

The first spacialist said he very likely has testicular cancer. The second said maybe an infection but given how cancer works they are pretty sure this is now tetiscular cancer.

He is fine with losing his testicle but not fine that he now has (possibly) another round of chemo and radiation.

Is it normal for other cancers to appear after his bout of SCC?

He is only 34 years old. I'm worried that cancer will continue to ravage and invade his body. I know there is a high rate of effective treatmen and cure for this second cancer. I just don't want my boy to keep going through this.

 

Anyone else have a second diagnosis afterwards Is there any hope the cancer will finally leave him alone?

    Hope it's just a scare. It seems your son had  stage 4 SCC HPV head and neck cancer. If cancer is in the testicle, it can be a new primary or a recurrence of the primary HNC cancer in which case it may be determined metastic. It'' be hard but all one can do is wait until the oncologist and tumor board offer up diagnosis and options. Again, hopefully it's just a nasty scare. Don

    yes, some people fight the fight for years, they go through it and then they are in remission. My mom fought for 2.5 years, we all thought this was it for her but she made it and she is NED for over 5 years now. Wishing you and your son all the best. Positive thinking is also the key....

    Dont jump to conclusions about a diagnosis or long term outcome. This junk is unpredictable but perseverance is key! Don't get discourage, he's so young, he will do fine with whatever treatment he may need. Be praying for you!

    Aw. Sorry to hear he is struggling with something. But don't jump to conclusions. Let them test and then see what you are all dealing with. Whatever it is, you son is strong and can handle it.
