    Blood transfusion and WBC

I have 5 days of shots after each chemo to build white bone cells starting one day after 5Fu bottle off, and have had 2 blood tranfusions (2 vials of blood each time) due to low red cells.  Having folfiri + avastin, and both white and red cells have been quite low at times.

    Shots

Gonna give myself third one today, got a bit of back pain, kind of bone pain, I had chemo/rad back in jan, was bresse comparing to folfox, these oxilaplatin is bruttal.

Apparentlly if back pain, bone pain, shots are working.

Did you take any supplements, I am thinking about taking garlic extract, to help myself deal with side affects of chemo.

    thx!

    WBC shots - bone pain

I get quite intense bone pain in my spine and sternum area with the WBC Shots.  My Onco had increased the strength of the shots because my WBC counts were still quite low, so I think I am at 480 mg for 5 days - was initially 300 mg per shot.  I take 2 tylenol 2x per day to help eleviate the pain and this helps quite a bit.  I have also heard that claritin helps.  Also had quite bad heartburn - tried Tums, but ended up taking Pantolac 40 mg - definitely helps.  I don't take any supplements at the time, as not really sure what to take, or if it will help.

    Bone pain

I am at 300, yesterday afternoon felt like new man, will have chemo and lab work next week.

Havent taken anything for pain, just bug my kids to massage me, will be interesting to see lab results next week. Alternating nettle tea, dundlion tea every second day, taking 1 gm of garlic extract till Sunday. Fresh orange juice every a.m., apparentlly its good for liver , also for potassium, my potassium is drifting, went from4.1 to 3.6 after couple of sessions.

Will let you know about labs next week.

    Improved

my liver labs are back to normal, did stop taking garlic extract after couple of days, alternated nettle and dundlion tea.

Neutrophils and platlets are still down, chemo postponed till next week, no injection this time, expectation is that lab results will improve.

Numbness in tip of the fingers and toes are off and on, so next chemo will be full dose, that will be my 4th dose, after that will drop it to 85% .

Overall feels good to have brake from chemo this week, little bit of back pain, I guess bone marrow stimulation is working.

    Grastofil and bone pain

When I  was getting Neupogen shots (Neupogen, like Grastofil, is a form of filgrastim) for low white blood cell counts,  I was advised to take a Tylenol or a Claritin tablet an hour or so  before getting each shot  to prevent the  bone pain. The Tylenol worked well for me, but I've heard others say the Claritin worked better for them.

Another vote for milk thistle capsules

I take these to support my liver too. So far I've been happy with them, but I haven't seen it offered as a tea. I think you would get a better dose with capsules than you would with tea anyway.

    Good luck with the treatment!

    Thx guys

I think it comes as tea, but you are right Thomas, dose is better in capsule form.
