Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
My Mom had a double mastectomy in early January. There were issues that caused her incisions to open up so she had to go back into the hospital to have the wounds cleaned and closed up again. The left breast still didn't heal and slowly began to open up again. We were asked if she ever had radiation to that area...and yes, she had radiation to her left breast about 4 years ago. The skin was actually not adhering in an area of about 5 inches in diameter, even though the actual wound was only about 2 inches across. They recommended Mom go through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (2 hours/day, 5 days/week for six weeks. She is just starting her second week of therapy and says the wound (visible part) is actually getting larger. Does anyone know if this is normal? Has anyone has success with hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
