I had kidney cancer last summer and caught it early.  I had to have an MRI on back today because it's hurting really Bad.  I think it's from lifting kids at work.  The top of my report says

IMPRESSION:
1. No definite evidence of metastatic disease.

mine never spread and I'm confused why it didn't just say no evidence of disease.  Anyone else have this?  Is this good or bad?

thanks!

    It's just the way that

It's just the way that radiologist words it. In the society we live in where some people will sue over anything, medical imaging is trending toward more vague language. If they put there is no metastatic disease, and a year later there was disease seen, they could be asked why it wasn't seen. So, many stick with saying things like this or "no visual evidence of disease" or "no metastatic disease visualized at this time." Was anything else noted?

    Thank y'all

    IMPRESSION:
    1. No definite evidence of metastatic disease.

    2. Mild degenerative disc disease at L4-5

    FOLLOW-UP RECOMMENDATIONS: Per clinical team.

Final Signed by Carlos Perez, MD Signed on 5/17/2017 1:51 PM Workstation ID: UWX513086

    Narrative

EXAM: MR THORACIC SPINE W AND WO IV CONTRAST
EXAM: MR LUMBAR SPINE W AND WO IV CONTRAST

HISTORY: 39 years -old Female with thoracic pain, h/.o breast and renal cancer

TECHNIQUE: Multisequence and multiplanar imaging of the thoracic and lumbar spine with and without IV contrast. 9 mL of gadovist was administered intravenously.

    COMPARISON: MRI lumbar spine 6/15/2016

    FINDINGS:
Thoracic Spine: There is a focus of T1 shortening within the T7 vertebral body consistent with a hemangioma. Alignment and vertebral body heights are maintained. Bone marrow signal is otherwise within normal limits. No abnormal enhancement is noted.
Spinal cord signal is unremarkable. No significant disc herniation or spinal canal stenosis is noted.

Lumbar Spine: There is disc desiccation at L4-5. Alignment and vertebral body heights are maintained. Bone marrow signal is within normal limits. No abnormal enhancement is noted. Conus terminates at L1 level.

Evaluation of disc levels as follows:
    L1-2: Unremarkable

    L2-3: Unremarkable

L3-4: Bilateral facet hypertrophy. Thecal sac and neural foramina are intact.

L4-5: Circumferential disc bulge with superimposed central disc protrusion with annular fissure, bilateral facet hypertrophy and ligamentum flavum thickening. Thecal sac is mildly narrowed to 9 mm AP. The disc bulge contacts bilateral descending L5 nerve
roots within the lateral recesses. There is mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing, unchanged.

    L5-S1: Unremarkable
