Enact clinical trial for prostate cancer

Before I began radiation I was recommended todo the the Enact Clinical trial..  I signed up for it , but backed out due to some of the side effects like seizures even though it was a small posibility.. Is anybody doing the trial..  How are you doing with it?

    The trial is designed to see if adding enzalutamide therapy to patients in Active Surveillance protocols has benefit.

    I can imagine that you would like to see some early data, but the trial is ongoing and it makes more sense to wait for published results. Unfortunately, that will take time (another two years or more?). Perhaps some early results will become available on the clinical trials site?

     

    PS: Are you sure that you would have been accepted in this trial since your biopsy showed four cancerous loci?

    Am I sure if I would have been accepted for the trial..

    No I am not sure. The surgeon recomended me for the trial.. I origanlly said ok.. But then looking at some of the side effects from enact I didn't think it was worth the risk. Although they would have done the DNA test.. Another issuse if I did get choosen and not on AS Enact can raise your blood presure.  I have 7 heart stents and my Carotid is all jam up at 80% to me the risk of having a stroke would be bad..   Seeing that I have more of a chance getting in the landscaping business  with my heart and/or the possibilty of a stroke.. My heart can kill me in the matter of minutes.. PCa isn't that fast..

    Looks like

    you made the right decision. And just to be nitpicky, the ENACT trial wants to determine whether enzalutamide (Xtandi) can be helpful to patients early on. Up to this now, Xtandi has only been approved for patients who have become castrate resistant.

    Enact study

    I was a Gleason 6, 65 years old, on AS and accepted into the Enact Study group getting the medication, not in the control group. I dropped out after 2 days of the 1 year program. I was most concerned about the side effects of the medication, especially the “feminization” that can occur. One Dr. told me that can be controlled with radiation treatments,however, about 3% of the guys who take those treatments will develop cancer in their lifetimes just from the treatments! My point to him was that meant 1 in 33 guys will develop cancer just from dealing with that particular mediation side effect. Too risky for me, considering totality of side effects. Also, in my local Men-to-Men group last week the discussion was about the Dr’s who conduct these studies have a substantial financial gain from the pharmaceutical companies to do so. It is a highly personal decision, there is no “one size fits all.” Do you have a Men-to-Men group near you? I recommend attending it.
