Confused about diagnosis procedure

Hello everyone. I have a definite lump in my breast and had to see Dr at breast clinic. Now I am confused because he said we will do a mammogram and ultra scan and I will see you in 4 weeks for diagnosis? There was no mention of a needle test or mri ? I have a strong history of breast cancer in my family and just wondered if he can diagnose accurately from just these 2 tests without a biopsy? Wishing you all well on your journeys xx

Hello sorry to hear about your lump in your breast! That is how the doctors started with my initial testing with the Mamo and the ultra scan and then the biopsy. ( i know they have to follow certain proceduces so the insurance will cover) Keep asking you doctors lots of questions and call speak to the nurse if you have any questions/concerns..you can never ask enough questions ..

Much success , prayers and blessing for you!

Beepositive is right.  Even docs have to walk the tight rope with the testing.  This can be good, they always start with the least intrusive test first.  Everytime I ever had a mammogram, I had to follow up with the ultra sound because my breast were always very dense.  I did that for years and years.  Over that time period, I had a few spots that were iffy but they kept a good eye on them.  I had one needle biopsey that turned out just fine.  It was not until Feb. of 2016, that one was very questionable and they did another biopsey on it.  It was cancer.  So just hang on and maybe yours wont be.  My mother always said, Just stick to the facts.  Dont let your emotions get too much in the way at this time.  HARD to do, but helpful too.   Take a family member or a friend with you that will be supportive and help you with listening and questions.

and of course, we are here for you always,

When is your mammogram and US?

Those would be the first tests.  If anything is suspicious, I assume they will schedule a biopsy and you'll either be told at the time of mammo or you'll get a call.  My biopsy was scheduled about 2 weeks after my ultrasound.  They just don't rush these things even though we think they should.  My mammogram, however, was routine - it sounds like yours will be diagnostic.  After your mammogram, if you don't get quick feedback,  call the doc for results and perhaps an earlier appointment.  Peace of mind and all that.  Good luck.
