Nodule found...

Hello.  My husband had a CT scan done yesterday.  One of the results was a small 5.1mm nodule (left lower lobe pulmonary nodule measure 5.1mm.  There is no free intraperitoneal air is what is listed on his discharge paper).

They want us to wait six months to do another CT scan.

I personally am thinking that we should test it now while it is small.

If it is cancerous, then we can treat it while it is small.

If we wait till six months for another CT, then find out it is huge and cancerous, then we would have to go through chemo then surgery.

If it is not cancerous, then we just monitor it.

Anyone agree/disagree?  Why or why not?

Thank you all.

    Nodule

Sorry to here about your husbands nodule. Did you ask for a MRI? I would. More sensitive test and can give more information. Good luck and God bless!

    My father

    Hi,

My father was diagnosed with end stage liver disease and has two solid tumors on his liver, roughly 5cm. This was 2 months ago. Oncologist is not able to treat him, he has multiple symptoms such as swelling, mild jaundice, poor appetite, weight lose with muscle wasting, weakness, transient confusion, forgetfulness, daily nausea, etc. His labwork is also abnormal. I was quoted a survival time of roughly 4 months. He is on Hospice now, but stable this week. We take it day by day and pray a lot. I'm must be in denial because I just don't see him passing in the next two months. If anyone out there is dealing with or been through this situation, will you please share your story with me. I have quit my job, moved him in with me, and am caring for him. Thank you!!

    My Father

So Sorry to read about your Father's condition, and I wish the best for you and him.

I watched my Father die Fibrosis of the Lung which he got from his job many years ago breathing asbestos.  Way back then nobody knew much about asbestos, in the end he was on O2 24- 7 and after sufering for 3 years the Lord came for him.  I hope your Father is able to recover from this, but to watch him suffer like mine did is hard, very hard, but passing away is all our destiny, we all have to go throught it, we can olny wish that we pass like a friend of mine did at 94 years old in her sleep, even then it's hard on the family, but if there isn't much left to do except to pray, pray he doesn't suffer to much.  Best wishes for you, and your Father.

Almost 17 year survivor of Thyroid Cancer.

I had Thyroid Cancer in November 2000, my Daughter who does massage therapy for a living was going around the room rubbing everyone's neck at my Aunt's 80th Birthday party, when she rubbed my neck, she found the lump.  I went to an ENT Doctor and he said it has to come out.  He operated and removed it which was the lymph node, and when I came out of it in the Hospital I was told I have Thyroid cancer, but they didn't take it out at that time, I had to go back into surgery in 2001 which then the whole Throid was removed even though the left side was canerous, but the right said was not.

Fast forward to 2017 and my heart Doctor sends me for a CT scan because he thought he saw a shadow on the bottom of my heart, so he wanted to see what is going on with my heart, but then several of these lung nodules are showing up.  I went to a Pulmonary Doctor he sent me for a PET scan and it seems there is activity in these nodules.  The next thing I need to do is to go for a needle Biospy, but my concern is with that needle, could that needle start the cancer to spread if that nodule turns out to be cancer.  This Docor seems to think that it could be an infection, but would an infection turn up in nodules?  Several are tiny 1-2mm, but one of them is between 6-7mm, and I think that's the one they want to biospy.

So the concern for me, and my family is will that needle turn this (up to now) slow growing cancer into something that grows much faster?

Does amyone know if I should be concerned?  If there is some knowledge or a need to be concerned about needle biospy to anyone here who has experienced this concern, please let me know.............Thank You....

Nodules Found 2007 told about them 2015

My lung doctor has been keeping an eye on these nodules in my left lung since 10/14.  The largest one was 5mm.  I get CT scans every 6 months.  5/15..no change.  10/15 it changes to 8mm but my doctor didn't say anything.  5/17 still at 8mm and the doctor's office calls and informs me that everything is stable.  I read into my test results and see that there was a jump in size last year and I wasn't told.  Is it cancer?  I'm scared out of my mind.  I already lost my father to throat cancer and my uncle to lung cancer.  Any sugestions?

Who's your doctor a cancer doctor? An oncologist?

I just went from having multiple nodules down to one 5mm nodule. All the others were due to severe type of pneumonia/ infection I had had for years which that I just finished chemo type treatment for.

if my 5mm  nodule grows to be 8 mm I would seek out more information and a second opinion  from a cancer doctor, an oncologist. A Thoracic (chest) oncologist.   We have to be our own advocate and take out own health in our hands. Your doctor may be right on the money but  A second opinion is what I am doing.

I would also only allow an oncologist to biopsy anything that I or my  Pulmonologist thinks is cancer.    I hope and pray that you are able to do the same because if something is not biopsied correctly it is  possible it could cause it to spread.

I hope that this might help. Because any literature I read from reliable sources  liver nodule grows you should have further test done and possibly biopsied by correct type of doctor

    Trying to serve regards

    To "17 years Survivor"

Because you had cancer in your thyroid gland please see an oncologist (a Thoracic oncologist=Chest Cancer doctor) for any biopsies that need to be done.  I would only allow a cancer doctor, and oncologist to do a biopsy of something that might be cancer so that it is done correctly.   If you have a cancer center near you my best advice to you would be to go there  for accurate information on biopsies and all things cancer.

Also, Yes infection can cause nodules on your lungs.  Which I know from experience. 6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a severe type of pneumonia.  Also on my lungs the report stated and doc said  "multiple nodules"  on my lower left lung  with several nodules throughout my lungs.

I just  received results from follow-up CT scan with iodine contrast.

I am Thrilled! to say that all the nodules ARE GONE except one which is 5 mm and went undetected in previous scan.

I would only allow an oncologist to biopsy anything that I  or my pulmonologist think is cancer.  I hope and pray that you are able to do the same because if something is not biopsied correctly it yes  it is possible it could cause it to spread.

We have to be our own advocate and yes it is important to listen to our doctors but  if you have any doubts follow your intuition and seek out correct doctor

      Wishing you all the best

    Husband 5.1 mm

I completely agree with you. I am in the same boat and I am doing more research to find out more about doing biopsy now. I have done a lot of research about nodules on lungs but for a different reason and for same reason. Long story.

Yes the recommendation from radiologist is to check it again in six months.

If I am able to get mine biopsied it will be done so by a thoracic oncologist orders not pulmonologist. only by Doctor Who deals with lung cancer.

Before I have any biopsy done I will have a thoracic/chest oncologist on board who tells the radiologist  exactly how to do the biopsy. If   Biopsied  the wrong way and the nodule is malignant it  is possible that it can cause it to spread.

Do as much research as you can. I use reliable resources so as  American Cancer Society, John Hopkins University, Moffitt Cancer Center's  etc.

Wishing both you and your husband and all the best
