Lab results
we got my husbands regular labwork back from his dr electronically but he is out of his office for over a week and no one will tell us what these results mean.
i associate high blood counts to cancer- but that could be simply my ignorance to the disease.
he is a healthy man in his 40's with no symptoms - no medications etc.
can anyone tell me if we should be concerned?
Leukocyte screen- positive (should be negative)
Hemoglobin screen- positive (should be negative)
White blood cells- 94/hpf (normal 0-9)
Red blood cells-7/hpf (normal 0-4)
Thank you in advance!

Sorry for your worry. Do you
Sorry for your worry. Do you have or had renal cancer? Is this lab a follow up?
I would ask if there would be a PA (phy assistant) or other doc in your clinic that could let you know what these lab values mean. Other questions would be answered after you MD gets back.
Good luck. Hope you get answers soon.
Warmly, Jan

Most likely your husband have some kind of infection.....relax
Leukocyte esterase is a screening test used to detect a substance that suggests there are white blood cells in the urine. ... If this test is positive, the urine should be examined under a microscope for white blood cells and other signs that point to an infection.
Hemoglobin is a protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen to your body's organs and tissues and transports carbon dioxide from your organs and tissues back to your lungs. If a hemoglobin test reveals that your hemoglobin level is lower than normal, it means you have a low red blood cell count (anemia)
If both WBC and leuk esterase are elevated, it more strongly suggests a UTI
higher than normal number of red blood cells in the urine may be due to - kidney and other urinary tract problems, such as infection, tumor, or stones; kidney injury, prostate problems, bladder or kidney cancer.

The normal range is 0-5 wbc/hpf, like you mentioned. This test is usually ordered to determine is someone has a urinary tract infection
