Left side sleeping images - video
Some quotes:
Sleeping on left side helps to remove lymph fluid, toxins, and waste from thoracic duct and lymph nodes. Whereas sleeping on right side may increase the risk of many deadly diseases.
Make it your habit to sleep on your left. You can place a full length body pillow on your right side, while you lay on your left side. This will keep you to turn on your right when you are sleeping.
For those with heart burn (gastroesophageal reflux), sleeping with the right side down actually worsens nighttime reflux as compared to sleeping with the left side down. And for those with obstructive sleep apnea, sleeping flat on your back tends to worsen this condition (as opposed to sleeping on your sides).

Finding the Right Sleep Position
Is side, stomach, or back best? And can you switch to another position if the one you favor may not be best for your health? "You're naturally going to gravitate toward a position that you feel best sleeping in," Park says. You'll also tend to choose one based on how well you're able to breathe. "The smaller the airway in your throat becomes at night, the more likely it is you're going to sleep on your stomach," he says.
Back sleeping is a no-no for snorers and those with sleep apnea; side sleeping is best because it helps keep your airways open. Research suggests sleeping on the left side can relieve heartburn symptoms, while right-side sleeping makes them worse. Sleeping on the left side is also recommended during pregnancy to improve circulation to the heart -- good for mom and baby.

Benefits
. This was a commonly known Ayurvedic principle once upon a time. Other left side benefits:
- the lymph system drains properly on left, is more constricted on right
- easier for heart to pump downhill
- aids in circulation back to heart
- bile flows more freely
Please check this out and see if I am not right. I almost am thinking God designed the human body to sleep on the left side. I wish I had known this a long time ago. Not pertinent to this discussion, but pregnant women should also be sleeping left.
"According to Ayurveda, the left side of the body is completely different than the right side, and, while I know it sounds strange, emphasizing the left side for rest and sleep offers some time tested wisdom for very real health and longevity benefits."... Lifespa

Better late than never
Sorry to hear that some on this forum have already passed the "point of no return", but I don't think I have, so I am doing this, and I think it definitely has made a difference. I still deal with GERD and hiatal hernia and gastritis, etc., but sleeping isn't quite the ordeal it was.
If anyone reading this has not dealt with the more severe issues, consider yourself lucky and heed this advice... Also, its not JUST about GERD, I honestly get the impression God designed this body to function more efficiently by sleeping on the left side. Can't prove it, but then again, Google and research the lymphatic and GI and other functions when sleeping on back, stomach, left side or right side. Like ROBERT CONRAD used to say "Go on, I dare ya!!"

Seriously?
You seem to be carrying on a conversation with yourself Grinder but, whether there's merit to this series of posts of not, I'm glad to say that I generally sleep on my left side. LOL!!!

Because
I posted all this because someone mentioned sleeping on right side and they also mentioned a lot of symptoms unrelated to prostate that sound like issues related to right side sleeping. But when I pointed that out in another thread, someone else believed from their experience it does not matter which side you sleep on. The above information includes quotes, images and video suggesting it does matter, and this is not just naturopathic hoo hah. It is a well known principle in modern medicine as well ayurvedic medicine. But I have spent enough time pushing it, if someone gains knowledge from it, fine. If not, whatever. Like I said, I wish someone had told me about this before the damage was done.

This is an interesting discussion. Surely the way we sleep and the length we lay down influence our functions. Recently I was caught with CKD and that made me to investigate the causes and the means to prevent deterioration. Now I have to control the blood pressure, in which case the way I sleep and the number of hours I stay in a laying position becomes influential. BP in the morning just after getting up is high but at the afternoon after many hours standing, is low. These facts also influence the timing for taking the BP pills.
The ones that prevent blood vessels from narrowing (Diovan, etc) should be taken in morning and the ones that relax the muscles of the heart and blood vessels (Adalat, etc) should be taken in the evening. Symptoms from the pills effect will tell if one has slept enough hours (laying position) or if the dose of the medication is proper or just unnecessary. Calcium channel blockers such as Adalat should not be taken during the Summer when temperatures at night are high.
Of course, any one checking their BP should measure it at the same time of the day, expecting the ones in the mornings to be higher than average. I recommend the measurements to be taken before breakfast and before any pill.Best

Hey Grinder
Hey Grinder, can you believe that guy that says you have discussions with yourself?
Yeah, I know, he thinks I actually have discussions with myself. Hah Hah... but we know better, don't we Grinder.
Oh yeah, we both know I have the most knowledgable and witty conversation on here and Facebook and Twitter.
You said it, Grinder. One of these days, Mark Zuckerberg is going to come to your house and award you the most witty and intelligent comment award.
No way, Grinder. He will have to have an award for each category, so you will get the wittiest comment award AND the most intelligent comment award.
True dat, Grinder.

Good to know
Good to have the BP information just provided. My BP fortunately has been in normal range as a rule, despite the other issues.
But its good to have all of VDG's widespread knowledge archived here in this forum so it can be searched when necessary.
I do know the delicate membranes in the kidneys are most at risk from BP... I have a very close friend with total kidney failure, and she has to do dialysis two to three times a week. She tried using a home dialysis set up, but it didn't work out. She is a cancer survivor, diabetic and lost all feeling in legs and dialysis, yet she faces every day with tremendous confidence and is deeply spiritual. I don't know how she does it.
