I really need some help

so my husband is 7 years from his diagnosis, stage 3 they did resection of the colon, three years later his CEA creeped up, there were spots on his liver but they were too small to light up on pet scan, then a year later they did, he had resection of his liver in 2014. Flash to now his CEA started creeping up in January (from 4 to6) ct scan showed nothing but the fluid collection on the resection margin. Yesterday his CEA is 13, his liver enzymes are horrific. ALP 352, AST 127, ALT 258, bilirubin 3.7. In January all his liver enzymes were perfect. All other numbers are good. He has a ct scan Friday, no results until Wednesday. We went to the ER yesterday because he didn't feel well, they did nothing said it's a cancer recurrence and not an emergency room condition, gave him an iv sent him home. I am a mess, I am frantic over those number and afraid he will get very sick or die before he even gets a scan result and even then his doctor will still make us wait for more tests. i am leaning towards recurrence either in the bile duct ( gallbladder is gone) or in the liver again. I am open to any and all opinions here. Please.

I am not a doctor, so can

I am not a doctor, so can only offer my sincere sympathy if his cancer has in fact recurred.  I was diagnosed a year ago and am doing well now, but of course worry about things getting worse at some point.  There are many on this site who have had relapses and recurrences that are treatable.  CEA can go way up to 100 or more.  CEA going up from 4 to 13 could indicate a recurrence. I sure hope he gets better.  Please post when you find out the results.

I will pray for you and your husband.

    Thank you

i am pretty sure it's a recurrence, but I was more curious if anyone has had their liver enzymes go crazy like this? It worries me they are so high and he isn't watching them at all. This morning he woke up not feeling very well.

    He is yellow today

he called his oncologist to tell him he was throwing up, yellow, and he had the chills but no fever. He told him it's cancer and until they have the scan results and make a plane he cant help him and not to go to the ER

    Your choice not the Oncologists

If you want to take your husband to the ER and your husband wants to go, you take him. Its not his Oncologist choice. If I were yellow and throwing up, I would be down there toot-sweet.

Plus, you have to be so careful about dehydration. The Oncologist can't tell wether your hubby is dehydrated. What is the man/woman thinking?

I remember you posting before, and I am sorry that your husband is at this stage. I pray the results to his scans are quick and he can get the help that his body obviously needs.

The reoccurance must be in a

The reoccurance must be in a critical spot for his liver to get so out of whack, I'm thinking, if in fact that's the cause.  My two liver reoccurances didn't come with abnormal tests or activity that I heard about. He'll need to be very careful taking anything that requires the liver to process, so outside of fluids, as Tru said, I'm not sure what can be done in the short term.  Waiting's a b*tch and I'm sorry you both can't get better answers and help. Someone here may have been down that road, and may reply, so keep checking back, and let us know how it goes...........................Dave

    Thank you!

I agree it must be in a bad spot because his liver enzymes with the three mets he had never even came close to these. they went up in a two month time, like I said they were prefect in january 31. i had to do some begging but I was able to get him a new oncologist, who without even knowing us looked through things on the phone and said if you you get any worse between now and Monday go to the ER and ask for me. I was so grateful I started to cry, huge relief. So scan today, results Monday. I can finally go to the appointments again, the other doctor was so nasty and mean (made fun of me when I cried once) I never went anymore.

He is not as nauseous today, no more yellow than before, just very itchy. So as of now he is no worse.

    I hope all goes well

A new Onc seems to be steps in the right direction.  Sorry you had to go through that unpleasent and unnecessary situation with the former Onc.

I wish your husband good results!

so we have been seeing the oncologist we just left for 7 years, today he calls the house to give us results. I don't get it, never was nice before. The results of this ct scan remain the same as the one in January which shows nothing. I am not willing to get excited yet but now we go to our GI doctor to see if we can figure out why his liver is off. Also the new oncologist on Monday.

    Hope all is well

I hope everything turns out well & had no major complications to deal with. I am pretty new in the forum and just learning on how to deal with my 12 sessions in 6 months. I had my first chemo done on the 14th of this month. Next session will be on the 28th which I'm not ready to take it in yet
