HPV vaccine
The specialist I went to for the IUD ( see previous post) helped to create the HPV vaccine. I asked him about his opinion about what to do if your child already has gotten the gardisil series of shots that protects against 4 strains of HPV since now there is one that protects against 9 strains. There are no official guidelines yet but he said he has teenage girls who had already had original vaccine and he is making them get the new vaccine series since it protects against about 20% more cervical cancers. I know I won't be popular with my kids but I'm going to make them get the new vaccine series. Anyway just a reminder that the vaccine is out there, please encourage all your relatives under the age of 26 to get the vaccine so hopefully less people have to go thru what we have!
