Newly diagnosed HER2 positive ER/PR negative
im newly diagnosed with IDC ER/PR negative HER2 positive. I felt my tumor in the shower on January 28, and got the call on March 3.... Cancer. I have no family history of breast cancer and am waiting for genetic testing results. Meanwhile I have met my surgeon and oncologist, have had an MRI, meeting a new radiologist on Monday to review MRI, CT chest scan scheduled as well as heart image, chemo class is this Thursday. I am scared ****less. Is anyone else HER2 positive

positive HER2
My mom was 82 when diagnosed with IDC Stage 4 HER2+ breast cancer. Given her age and the fact that she is very independent, she didn't want to have chemo even though they found the original mass in her right breast and lymph node and a nodule in each lung. Originally she was only going to agree on a lumpectomy but with the scans they found the lymph node and nodules also so surgery was out. She refused chemo but opted to have Herceptin only. Well after about six months both of the nodules in her lungs were gone and the original tumor shrunk enough that she was able to have a lumpectomy and they removed the lymph node. My mom will be 84 and she is still driving. In fact she drives herself to the treatments every 3 weeks.
Being on herceptin though you have to have MUGA scans and CT scan approximately every 4-6 months to check your heart (MUGA). The only thing is I wish they had given her a port since they told her she would need to do this treatment all the time.
You can do this.
My best to you,
Kathy

Thank you for the encouragement, I try to stay positive but I do have my moment. I have a 9 year old daughter and I can't bear the thought of leaving her!! yesterday I had my first round of chemo TCH-P, and so far today I feel pretty good, I've heard it gets harder as you go. take care!
