Signet ring cell cancer

I am trying to find out anything about this diagnosis. My wife has been diagnosed with this in February, had an Exploratory Lab and abdominal surgery for small bowel obstruction. Her first round of Chemo was last Wednesday and didn't go too well. Lots of vomiting and diarrhea. Friday she was given 2 liters of fluid and deaccessed. Has anyone gone through this? Tim

    Signet Ring Cell Cancer

    Hi Tim,

I was diagnosed with SRCC a year ago last March.  Since then, I have had surgery, chemo, barium enemas, bone biopsy, colonoscopies, PET scans, CT scans etc...This is a very agressive cancer that does not respond well to chemo.  Nothing has really stopped the spread (it's now in the bone) and now my oncologist wants to try radiation to help with the pain and then more chemo.   He says it won't "cure" the cancer, but may slow down the progression.  With this type of cancer, that's about all you can hope for.  There is only one clinical trial  that I know of...using oxaliplatin and an autoimmune drug.  I am not a candidate for the study because I had an anaphalactic reaction to the oxali.  I hope your wife does better with the rest of her chemo, but don't get your hopes up that it will cure it. Just keep trying as long as it MAY help.  And keep asking questions.  Let me know how things go...I check the site frequently.  I'll be glad to try to answer any specific questions you might have.  I will also give you my email address it you'd like it.  Just remember, less than 1% of cancer patients have SRCC, so it's not one of the ones they are paying much attention to.  BTW...the doctor gave me Emend for nausea when I was on chemo, and it worked like a charm.  You might try looking into it for your wife.

Keep me posted...God Bless you both.

Stage 3b Signet Cell NED 5 Years

    Hi Tim,

I was Dx'ed in 2012 with stage 3b signet cell.  I had the surgery and 12 rounds of Oxci and fu.

I am 5 years NED (No Evidence of Disease) this past Jan.  There is not alot of signet cell, my Onc said it was rare but they are seeing more cases

They will give meds to help with the side effects.

Best of luck, please check back often.  You can PM (Private Message) me if you would like.

    Thanks

I would like to thank both of you for the information! Will look into the nausea med for her. She has had 2 good days now. Bloodworm went well yesterday but if she does not increase her weight, or she will have to do PEG feelings. The doctor also said Genotyping was done and after chemo there are options. We are not sure what the options are but will pass that info along to y'all when we find out. I will pass what y'all have said to my wife. Thanks, Tim

    Chemo round 2

She has done good with this round! No N/V so far thanks to Emend. I was going to mention it to the doctor but he said he was going to try it to see if it would help. A BIG thanks to Sondra (Jeffs Mom) for mentioning it. She is very tired though. Potassium still low and will probably be on Kdur for the duration due to diarrhea. The doctor also said she will have chemo every other week for 6 months not just 2 months. I am glad but my wife may have a different opinion
