I have not experienced a recurrence, but I do know from years of being active on 3 different support sites that there are stories of successful treatment for recurrence. I hope anyone on this site who has been through that will post and answer your question.

Hi,
I was what I consider to be successfully treated in 2011 for stage 3b anal cancer and in 2015 had a recurrance of anal cancer mets to my lung. I did have ostomy surgery in 2011 with my first dx, and the recurrance was in a distant organ. My treatment was surgery to remove the lobe of my lung that contained the tumor, followed by chemo. It has been 2 years since that now, and I will be scanned in a couple weeks. Mostly I feel great with a few minor but manageable concerns. I will keep all posted on my upcoming scans when results are in.

Thank you for the well wishes. While I am realistic in knowing that the potential for treatment of one sort or another is often there for me, I am very optimistic for a manageable outcome.
I do still have a mild concern over that previous deep breath issue, but it has gotten better. It was suggested to me that I may have adult onset asthma. I decided to wait until after the scan, and based on that, if still a question, will see a pulmonologist.
I much appreciate the prayers and hope to report good news as well!!

Successful recurrences?
my first cancer was breast cancer in 2001 and I've been clean since. In 2011 I was Dx with anal cancer in siti and they were checking me every three months. In three months I was Dx with invasive anal cancer and in 2015 it came back as incurable. I've had cisplatin, mytomician, 5 FU and stereotactic radiation. I was on three trials including Optivo and Tacilitab. Nothing worked. In fact, the tumor got bigger. I'm now in Hospice Care.

I'm so, so sorry to hear of your struggle. It sounds like you've been run through the mill. I have no words, except to say that I admire your strength in the face of adversity. You have been fighting a hell of a fight. I wish you peace of mind and grace through this next chapter.

I know that survival rate may sound a bit bleak, but hold onto hope that your mom will be in that group. She is obviously a fighter and with you by her side, I think the odds are quite in her favor! Sending prayers.

Thank you Martha, he was the general surgeon as well so not a cancer specialist but the best for the colostomy. We see her oncologist Tuesday. Looking about a month out for surgery
