Residuals from lumpectomy and radiation

I had a DCIS lumpectomy followed by radiation in the summer of 2014 and have had pretty much smooth sailing, up until a few days ago.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had an experience like mine.

A few days ago, the scar area and surrounding area became an angry red, sore and warm to the touch. It really hurt when I stretched my arm.  The soreness is abating but it's still red and somewhat warm.  Additionally, I also noticed that the nipple on this breast has inverted and is a bit darker than the other one.  It's also a bit flaky and a little sore.  I'm not sure how long the nipple changes have been around, quite honestly.

The scar is really lumpy, but that's the way it's been since the surgery. My breasts are on the small side, so the scar takes up a lot of space.

I see my doctor next Monday but I'm starting to get a little anxious which is why I'm here.  

Thanks in advance for any information, insight or sharing of experience.

    Hi Dolllady,

    I'm glad you're seeing your doctor about this. He/she may want you to have a mammogram or other test or scan to rule out anything serious. I had a lumpectomy 5 years ago and never had redness or soreness like what you're talking about. Your problem definitely needs investigating. Don't leave the office until you get an appointment for further tests. The inverted nipple sounds strange. You may have to see your surgeon to have him take a look too. Just don't let them take a wait and see approach. Be assertive and proactive in your care.  Let us know how you make out at the doctor's. Good luck!     Kats2

    Kats2 - Thank you so much for responding to my post.  I'm actually seeing my surgeon on Monday and have a mammogram before my appointment.  I wish it was sooner as I am absolutely no good at waiting.
