in Breast Cancer #1

Good afternoon,

I'm here for my husband, whose breast cancer is now stage IV. He is triple neg, brca2, and has done a round of AC/T, axial node dissection and radiation, then less than four months later, it's back. 

We are from Montana, but I have family in S vermont, so he came back for a trip to Dana Farber for a consult.  The result was that he can a) stay in MT and do a randomized trial of a cisplatin/parp inhibitor,  b) fly back  to VT and drive to DF every 21 days for a cisplatin/wee-1 inhibitor trial, c) call around and see where they are doing a trial he could possibly be eligible for and actually be able to get to, and, I guess, d) do nothing.

His oncologist i n MT then told him that the PARP study was not available in MT, so...so much for that.

He's 66, Native (Blackfeet) , loves his (physically demanding, great insurance) job, lives for hunting and golf. Never missed a day of work while doing ACT.

I would be very surprised if he decides - hey, quit the job, go east, do treatment and see how it goes. He may, but i doubt it.

He does not do support groups (but I do!!!) but he does have very strong faith.

Anyway, I'm very glad to find such an amazing site and read about so many journeys. I'll be reading up on cisplatin and all the other parp/wee-1/immunotherapy drugs I can.

    Hi Chwarae!

    I know 2 tnbc women who were on cysplayin and did very well. They were both Triple Negative. I don't know of the other drugs that they were on though. I think they had radiation too. One woman is young, the other in her late 60's. If I see them at a support group that I go to, I'll ask them what their protocol was. TNBC is supposed to be a challenging one to deal with. Your husband sounds strong. If those two women could make it, I think your husband, with his strong faith, can do it tooI 

    I'm glad you made it to Dana Farber. I also went for a second opinion there 2 yrs ago. I am currently seeking another opinion from a breast Oncologist at their satellite site in Marlboro, MA. I'll be having scans there this coming week and they'll consult with my current Oncologist and give their recommendations. A good plan! Maybe something like that can happen with your husband, where a plan is made and he can have the treatments in your area, but check back periodically with the Dana Farber Oncologist. That would be something to discuss with them. Maybe the two doctors could corroborate  with each other on your husband's treatments and progress.That would be really great! Worth investigating.

    Thanks so much Kats2! REalliy comforting to hear your experience and those of the other women. I would love to know if they did cisplatin alone or with somethign else? I am hoping for some other options in his treatment as well (would be easier all around--I am in VT and he is in MT so it's been challenging!) anyway, thanks again!
