stoma bleeding where it is attached to the skin
surgery 3 weeks ago and the stoma is bleeding where it is attached to the skin. ostomy nurse said the opening in the pouch may have caused this but not to worry. It bleeds maybe 3 or 4 ounces or more. Suregon not concerned. Should I use stoma powder to help heal...could a stich have come loose?

3 or 4 ounces sounds like
3 or 4 ounces sounds like quite a bit but if the pros don't seem worried then I guess it's not abnormal. You're still healing so I suppose something like that could happen. Mine healed quickly and easily but I still get a bit of bleeding sometimes if it's irritated. Yes, I'd try the stoma powder, it does help a lot but if your skin is irritated it will sting when you first put it on. Just for a split second, then its soothing. I've been lucky and have had few issues with mine. It'll burn if I eat spicy foods or sometimes even rich foods like broccoli. If I go for the full seven days it's usually irritated by the time I change it. But for the most part it's been a Godsend. Although I loathed it for the first year or so. Now it's been 3 years and I have the option to get rid of it but I don't want to. I had severe IBS as long as I can remember and it's so freeing to be able to eat what I want now and not worry. My life was dictated by my IBS but no more.
