Going in for surgery next week

in Ovarian Cancer #1

I am 42, have parents who depend on me, a loving husband....I am scared what will happen to me :(

Just venting out...sorry

    It's scary there is no way around it. We can get use to being the care giver and when we are the one in need of care it's scary. I know that I have learned to lean on others at this time. Trust me you have this. hugs

    hey there. take it one day at a time. focus on the stuff you can do over the next week. eat well. drink plenty of fluids. do the things that you enjoy if you can. spend time with your loved ones. before you know it, surgery will be done and you can focus on healing and recovering. i've been down this road twice and i know you can do it.

    i am scared too

    I had surgery 11 days ago. feeling a little better each day.  when i look back to day one and two, I realize how far I have come in eleven days. I worry about my family.  what i keep telling myself is to not worry about the things i can not control. focus on the things i can. take care of business before surgery. focus on your health while you recover. I also am reminded almost daily that I have a lot of people pulling for me.  I am pulling for you. You will do fine. Best wishes to you.

    Good luck next week. Full hysterectomy? I am sure you will do well.  Will they use the DaVinci? I had my hysterectomy and staging Feb 1st, 2017 with Davinci. I didn't have much pain - i took 1/2 oxy the night after the surgery to sleep, as I was pretty wired. I don't do well on narcotics so while they were prescribed, I avoid them. I stayed home for 3 days, took Tylenol,  but went back to work on the 4th day. The only pain was truthfully when my car tires hit every pothole between the house and my office and bounced me in the car. I made the mistake of working in the yard 8 days after. I didn't affect any stitches, but I was in so much pain that evening, I thought I was having an appendicitis....so I called the surgeons office. When I told them what I had been doing, they said ....woah, you were supposed to take it easy for at least 2 weeks. Well that's just not me....so I took 2 Tylenol and spent the day on the sofa, and I was fine next day, and went to work. 

    The only side effect of the surgery that I didn't expect is because of the lymph nodes that were taken to test for cancer, I have some numbness in my upper thigh of one leg. Like someone else said, some of this numbness is supposed to go away over time.

    It is ok to be scared.  You are saying it outloud to a bunch of people who know exactly what you mean and "get it".  

    Surgery is step one.  It is going to let them know what the "plan" is going to be.  You can't get to the plan until you go through step one.  Take a breath.  Know that you are in the prayers of everyone here and that we will be here when you get out of surgery.
