Off topic Academy Awards

I know this is off topic but I thought it would be nice to do something fun.  So my question is: did you see any of the movies nominated for best picture this year?

What was your favorite? I'll start with me. I saw Moonlight, Hell or High Water, Arrival and Manchester by the Sea. My favorite was Arrival. I'd love to know what you all saw and what you liked best. Love Surf

    Academy Awards

The only nominated movie I have seen is La LA Land. I wasn't aware it was a musical before going to see it with my daughter. The story line/plot was very good but frankly musicals are just not my cup of tea. I came home and said that I didn't  see what all the fuss was about. It seems like I am in a minority according to all the pre-Oscars award shows. We shall see what tonight brings.

    Didn't see any of them

But I want to support this thread! It's been a really long time since we tried to get together and connect on a fun off topic subject so thank you, 1surfermom, for starting this.

    Hey surf!

I saw LaLaland and Hidden Figures. I'm hoping Hidden Figures is recognized. Awesome true story. Linda

    I saw LaLa Land, Hidden

I saw LaLa Land, Hidden Figures (loved it!), Fences, Manchester by the Sea, Hacksaw Ridge, Arrival and Moonlight(yes, I'm a movie buff!). I was surprised that Moonlight won. I thought it would be LaLa Land.

    Shocking ending to Academy Awards!

Wow! What an embarrassing and surprising ending to the Oscars last night! How in the world did Warren Beatty get the wrong envelope to announce the winning best film? Me thinks I smell a rat! Lol!  The envelope that he was holding had already been read off with an actor winning for LaLaLand. So how did that same envelope show up twice? There should've been only one envelope left to be opened at the end! Hmmmmm... ???  Kats2

There are two reps that stand

There are two reps that stand on each side of the stage with a copy of the winners. So there are two sets of cards with the winner's name. Somehow, things got mixed up and Emma Stone's card went out twice.

It was exciting for a while!

Well, it certainly caused a lot of excitement and confusion! I have a feeling that the "two sets of cards" routine will now be a thing of the past! I'm surprised that the Academy never thought that two people handing out results would mistakingly cause a wrong call. It was nice that the LaLaLand group of actors and staff  acknowledged the error with grace and dignity, even after they started giving their speeches. I guess Steve Harvey has company now!! LOL!    Kats2

    Favorite Movies

I saw LaLa land, Lion, and Hidden Figures. La la land was fun but don't get all the hype.  Hidden Figures and Lion-both true stories -were much better.  Lion is amazingly impactful.
