Herceptin vs Perjeta vs Kadcyla

My mom is HER2 positive.  She has stage 4 invasive breast cancer.  She didn't want to do chemo at all against the advice of the doctors because she is 83 years old.   She's been on Herceptin for 18 months. Doing really well.  The lung nodules dissappeared and her breast tumor shrunk enough that they were able to do a lumpectomy.   She gets herceptin every 3 weeks and will do so for the rest of her life or untll it stops working then they will proceeds to perjecta, etc.   There is no side effect from herceptin other than maybe tiredness on the day of treatment (which is only 1/2 hour).    She does have to do a MUGA test every 3-4 months to make sure that it isn't damaging her heart.  So far so good.   She just had a recent scan last week - NED!

We've been reading about really good control of Herceptin for Her2+ in breast. But not sure of the outcomes for uterine cancer. My mother has UPSC which is an aggresive form of uterine cancer. So we're not sure whether to go with Herceptin. Still to hear of your mother's experience is encouraging. 

 

I've heard really good things on herceptin.  I sure do hope it is the right fit for your mom.   I also know of a friend who has been on it for 10 years.   Although again original breast cancer, she had a PET scan which showed bones mets throughout her body.   That was 10 years ago and she still is here and doing well.   If I hear anything else on herceptin for other cancers (especially uterine) I will let you know.
