2 Trips to the Emergency Room Last Night

My husband went to the bathroom and had a lot of blood last night.  This is the first time since the initial day of finding the tumor.  We thought that maybe a trip to the ER would be wise since he also felt a bit lightheaded.  They called the urologist and he said it wasn't too surprising and since his bloodwork was excellent, he was sent home with no further testing.

A couple of hours later, he woke and felt extreme pain in the right side, that's the side with the mass.  He said it felt like when he passed a kidney stone.  So we went back to the ER since he has had no pain throughout any of this, and they did a CT scan and x-ray.  Both showed nothing unusual.  No inflammation, bleeding or anything.  They said his kidneys looked good.  They have no explanation for the pain.  And the pain ended just as quickly as it came, without pain medications.  The nurse did say that maybe it might be a good idea to call the surgeon to see if the surgery could be moved up.  It isn't scheduled until March 6.

Did any of you guys experience this sort of pain?  Did you get an explanation for it?

Sorry for all the questions, I appreciate you taking the time to help us again.

    I don't know the answer. Just saying hi.

    In my case the blood in my urine happened a few times over about 10 days then disappeared.  I never had any pain.

    We are both so glad to hear that you are doing so well after your traumatic experience.  You are quite a trooper!!

    Coffee

    On top of all the good drugs and foods people mention for the bowel movement, my mother who is a retired surgery nurse mentioned coffee. Im not normally a coffee drinker and it seemed so simple and easy but it worked.

    Sandy,

    I developed a renal thrombus that was the cause for my pain when I started with hematuria. Make sure you are taking the proper anticoagulants or this could get ugly.

    Is that something that would show on a CT scan?

    I had blood in my urine for a long time it would come and go.  There was never any typical pain that came with the bleeding.  My pain did not get severe until my kidney had become infected and was swollen to twice it's size and had to be removed that night, the pain that day was horrible it was the first time I felt a number 10 pain on the scale from 1 to 10.  I did have discomfort in my back on my left side for several years, it would come and go, ironically I joked with my wife that it must be kidney cancer.  I guess the joke was on me.

    Yes. My husband was admitted. They did the surgery a few days

    This happened to my husband and he was admitted. They did the surgery a couple days later. It got really really bad for him. If he is passing clots, it will be incredibly painful. If it happens again, go back. They can admit him for pain managmement and the surgery could possibly be moved up.

    Ooh I remember them, just in the few days after my diagnosis, before the Urologist gave me a pill (I wish I could remember what) to stop the bleeding. The pain was breathtaking, thank God that it was only a few days. It too shall pass.

    First of all, Sandy, I am

    First of all, Sandy, I am sorry for what you and your hubby have been going through. Two trips to ER is bad enough. Yes, some things may not possibly show up on the tests they conducted. So trust your instincts and advocate for yourself and of course your husband.

    Example (this is minor to what your hubby is going through): I had terrible mid back pain, told my Urologist/surgeon and he said, no definitely not related to kidney cancer. I had not yet had the surgery. So I consulted with my other specialist for another chronic condition I have and she said, NO, its not related but probably related to the Kidney cancer. HUH? So, I went to my primary and she said, "well lets see if its there after your kidney surgery." Turns out SHE was right (as well as I ). Once I recovered from the radical surgery, my mid back pain went away..go figure.

    My hope for your hubby is that they tested for anemia  too since he lost blood, did they?

    Hopefully, this will push up your husband's surgery.. push for it! ALWAYS trust your instincts and inner voice!

    Were the clots coming from the kidney for you guys?  That seems the most likely to me but the ER doctor said that isn't possible.  That they are forming in the bladder from the blood sitting in there for a length of time and coagulating.  Because he did pass a clot last night.  

    He feels great now and has no blood or pain at the moment.  He is an auto mechanic and did some extra stuff at work yesterday.  He also said he jumped off the side of a large, four-wheel drive pickup -- twice!!  I couldn't do that on a good day, so I wonder if he jolted that kidney around too much.  Oddly enough, he has drastically changed his diet and says that he feels better than he ever has.  I think it is making him a little too over eager to do things he shouldn't be doing -- like jumping from 6 feet high surfaces.

    I can't remember, but he would have "attacks"

    And they gradually got worse with each one. I think the location of the tumor causes it but I'm not sure exactly why.

    OH my passing clots HURTS~!!!

    OH my passing clots HURTS~!!!!!! I have had past UTIs (not related to kidney cancer) and passed clots the size of half dollar. The most painful thing ever!! * and I had 3 10pound babies!!
