Amino acids and Vit C during chemo??????
A friend of ours who went thru chemo for brain cancer told us she took a combination of Vit C powder mixed in juice, 2x a day, along with amino acid pills to help the Vit C get absorbed into the system. She said it helped her through the chemo treatments. She said it helped her body replace what the chemo sucked out of her. The good stuff.
Has anyone heard of this or done this? This person thats been giving me this info has a multitude of other issues...MS, COPD, she was on a total of 32 meds. She started taking medical marijuana ( the MM came after her chemo treatments) and is now down to 12.....but...my point is, she was on alot of different meds (as my dad is now) when she did the Vit C Amino Acid combo and she said it helped her.
I got some for my dad but wanted to ask if anyone else had experience with this combo during treatment?
Thank you!

Hello Jade,
I'd assume that your doc would tell you to go ahead, if you think it'll help, you're not going to hurt anything by trying. I'd still definitely talk to my oncologist to see if there might be any unwanted interactions. I personally tried my own little bit of voodoo while I was doing the folfox/herceptin combo. I drank a LOT of tea, each cup with half a lemon squeezed into it. That was for the antioxidants and vitamin C. I also read somewhere that garlic could be helpful, so I was vampire-proof for a while. My oncologist read somewhere that an aspirin a day could be helpful, so she had me taking that, because, "it can't hurt anything."
I don't know if any of that voodoo helped anything, but I'm five+ years from a terminal Stage IV diagnosis and still testing clean. Something worked really well, much better than expected. I'm actually still geting herceptin weekly, even though there's no evidence out there to say that's an effective thing to do. My doctor and I honestly have no idea exactly what led to my unanticipated success, so we're not going to try to fix something that's working. BTW, I'm still drinking about four cups of tea a day with half a lemon squeezed into each to benefit my immune system. No clue if it actually works, but somehow or other, I'm still alive, so...
So, if you think that vitamin C and amino acids might help, go for it. If you think medical marijuana could be helpful, try it. As long as your oncologist says you'll not be hurting anything, who knows, you may well be helping your father.
Wishing you guys all the best,
Ed

Thank you for the reply. I just spoke to my dad tonight and he sounds worried. He said hes very weak still. He was feeling weak before he started this new chemo ( Cyramza) He had been fighting bronchitis. We thought it was from that. Were not sure though. He said he tried to go into a store today and could barely walk in the door. had to let people keep going around him. I told him never do that again. Not while hes so weak. Hes had 2 other treatments in the last year and a half, and he said he dont recall feeling like this. So, hes worried. Hes going to call his regular dr tomorrow to ask about a chest xray, of his lungs to see if they can see whats going on. My dads oncologist is not a fan of any kind of voo doo if u will. He said there is no science to back any of it up. So, we can run it by him and see if he can at least tell us if it will be ok to do with all else he has going on. I am so thrilled for you and your success at fighting this horrid disease. Your outcome is exactly what weve all been praying for. How wonderful for you. I will relay this to my pops and we will see what happens. Thank you so much Ed...it helps to hear these stories. I had a little breakdown tonight after I got off the phone with him. Your story gives me hope. what kind of tea are you drinking? May I ask?
Thank you again.

Hello,
I just drink regular black tea. Usually Lipton, sometimes store brand. Your dad's doctor is 100% correct about there being no science behind these types of things. I still think that if folks think whatever might help, then why not?
