Found Polyps

in Colorectal Cancer #1

I found this site after my 38 year old sister was diagnosed with stage 3 Rectal Cancer. Out of concern, I had a colonoscopy. During the procedure, they removed 9 polyps. I am 35, to me that it a lot. According to my husband, since I was completely sedated during the convo, I asked the doctor if I had cancer. She said, "it doesn't appear to be, but we won't know until pathology reports back". I should be getting the result this coming week. I'm the mean time, I am losing my mind. Please share any information that you may have.

    Polyps are a dime a dozen

    Polyps are very, very common. Some people are prone to them in different areas of their body (I had a friend in her 20's who had 20 removed from her nose and sinus).  Take a good, deep breath and tell yourself that everything is fine.  

    You have certainly done the right thing in getting a colonoscopy. That, you won't regret. Now just keep yourself calm until the results of the biopsy.  Oh, I know, easier said than done. The life of a Cancer patient is one of tests, tests and more tests, which includes that horrible waiting period.  When I feel I'm getting carried away with worry, I tell myslef (over and over) that the results will be the same regardless of how much I stress over it. Meditaion helps me. 

    I wish you luck with your results, and pray all is well. 

    I also wish your sister does well as she starts her Cancer journey.  We're here for both of you.

    My PCP says he's had hundreds

    My PCP says he's had hundreds of polyps in his colon, I was amazed. But no cancers, so there's that for perspective. Lots of people have polyps, my sister had two removed after I was diagnosed. The doctor is just being cautious, so save your mind for too much good food, old movies, and in my case, football. Go Pack.

    I made my husband go get a colonoscopy just over a year ago and he had a few polyps. Polyps can become cancerous but not necessarily. It's great that you're being proactive about it. Best of luck with your results!

    Don't worry until you absolutely have to! I had a cervical polyp removed a few weeks ago. My GYN said that 9 times out of 10 polyps aren't cancerous, though since I have cancer I would have a slightly higher chance of having a cancerous polyp. But it tested negative for cancer, so it's all good :)

    usually they can tell you right away, the doc that did my colonoscopy told me right there that he think it is cancer , of course we had to wait for biopsy, that unfortunetlly came back as positive.

    My wife told that her co-worker had 6 polyps, no cancer, will have to have another exam in year.

    It is good thing that you went for exam, you should be ok, hardest part is waiting game,  but it shouldnt take long, wish you and your sister best of the luck.

    I appreciate your responses! Luckily, 8 of them were similar to skin tags and only one was an Adenoma. They will perform a colonoscopy very 3 years.
