Hi all,

I'm 56 and had an endometrial biopsy on Thursday due to 6mm endometrium, nodular lesion (17mm x 20mm x 9mm) and postmenopausal bleeding (1 week that seemed like a normal period about a month ago after 2.5 years of no bleeding). I believe that my gyncologist used the Pipelle (suction) tool, but was so nervous that I forgot to ask.

He said that there wasn't much going on in there, but I'm hoping that the sample is adequate for analysis. I should have the results within a week or so.

The Ultrasound on Oct 29 also showed a calcified fibroid (knew about) and a simple follicle on my right ovary (knew about), but also found a nodular lesion withing the endometrium. This is new, since I had previous ultrasounds in 2013 (7mm thickness) and 2014 (5mm thickness).

These are my questions:

If it comes back as benign (knowing that he did not have access to the nodular lesion during the biopsy), is it possible that the endometrium is benign but the nodular lesion is malignant?  I ask becuse I read that these lesions come from the lining itself, so I'm not sure if there is a direct correlation.

If it comes back as malignant, is that usually enough for insurance companies to approve a hysterectomy? I have Covered CA Healthnet HMO.

I will ask my doctor questions when the results are back, but I believe that those who have been through a similar experience might be able to shed some light on this.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my post and respond.

Regards,

Bonnie

    Welcome

Welcome to this little club.  This is a great place,to,come for support and information.  I am sorry that I don't have anything real helpful about insurance.  I have Medicare and they have been pretty great, but my hospital fights all the, battles.  I would certainly think that your insurance would cover a hysterectom, but a,quick call would set your mind at ease.  There should be,someone along soon that can answer your questions much better than I can.

    Hugs and prayers, Lou Ann

Bonnie, as Lou Ann said, I

Bonnie, as Lou Ann said, I don't have an information regarding your insurance.  I would recommend trying not to get too far ahead of yourself.  Find out what the results are, I hope they are benign, and have your questions ready.  Maybe they will recommend a hysterectomy anyways.

Please let us know how everything goes.

    Hi Bonnie, it is completely

Hi Bonnie, it is completely normal for you to want to understand exactly what is going on and how it can be managed. This is a very scary time for you. Unfortunately, there is not much that you can do to control the situation until the pathology report comes back. Once you have that and you've had a chance to discuss it with your doctor, the plan of action will naturally start falling into place. I hope that you take some time and enjoy this holiday. If you do indeed need to go into treatment afterwards, you will be able to start it strong and refreshed. Wishing you comfort and strength, Kim

Thank you all so very much. I

Thank you all so very much. I appreciae your caring and kind responses. I'll do my best to relax a bit. I'm still spotting here and there, which I was told is normal after a biopsy, so I'm only doing light cardio at the gym and won't lift weights for a few more days.

I'll let you all know the results and plan as soon as I hear back from my doctor.

    Thank you all so much.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.

    Warmest regards,

      Bonnie

    New Here

Hi all~ I am new here and I am hoping you can share some of your experiences with me. I recently started spotting , in late Oct., after 17 months cycle free. I did some research and learned this condition is not normal and requires being seen asap. I saw my family doc on Nov. 7th where it was discovered that he has been treating me with unopposed estrogen therapy for a little over a year. I have no idea how this happened since I do still have a uterus. Has this happened to anyone else here and what was the outcome for you?

I was sent home from that appointment being told to stop the Estradiol 1mg for 10 days and take a new prescription of 10mg Provera/daily for 10 days. After the 10 days, I should resume the Estradiol 1mg/Provera 2.5mg. There was no mention of an ultrasound or a biopsy. Something did not sit right so I contacted a family member's Gynecologist for a second opinion. They scheduled me , unseen, for a TVU on Nov. 15 with an appointment immediately following.

I went from the TVU appointment to the Gyno's office where I was told that I have a 7mm lining and need a biopsy. The Gyno attempted a same day biopsy but it was unsuccesfful due to extreme cervical stenosis. YIKES!!!! I was told I could try a 2nd biopys with some medication and dilation, in office, or have it done surgically. I chose in office. A successful biopsy was done Nov. 18. It was somewhat less painful with the medication and dilation. Now I   am in the hurry up and wait stage.

I was told results would be available in 3-5 days and that the office would call me. I am now on day 10 and have not heard anything. Of course 4 of the days are weekend days and 1 was Thanksgiving day. Does that affect the count? Is it better that I have not heard back? I have read some posts that seem to indicate no news is good news. I am on pins and needles.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

    Call

I'd say that you've waited long enough and it's ok to follow-up with a call looking for your results. Never assume anything.

I took two weeks for my results to come in. I did call in the meantime though, so it would be a good idea.

Noelle, it seems like we do

Noelle, it seems like we do this a lot - LOL!  We start on one topic then jump over to something else, then go back.  It's a pretty relaxed group and I don't think anybody takes offense.  The good thing about starting your own thread is that it's easier for us to find you!!!  You can just copy your post and repost it on a separate thread.  You'll get a lot better response too.

Welcome to our group and as Lou Ann says, "Welcome to the club nobody wants to be a member of."  Ain't that the truth???  LOL

    Love,

    Eldri

Thank you and still waiting for results

First off, Noelle.. certainly no apology needed, ever. :-)

I called the office and left a message on Friday since it was a just over a week since my biopsy, and they have not returned my call. While, the doctor is fabulous and when I was there twice, I was treated well by the staff, I have heard that they are not very responsive via phone. There's a special extension for test results, and I'm afraid that they are simply too busy.

So, I plan to call the appointment desk tomorrow morning and see if I can get through that way. If not, I will probably bite the bullet and drive over and hope someone can tell me something. I'd like to believe that if it was bad news, they would have reached out to me right away, but I don't want to get my hopes up. I just hope that the sample was sufficient for analysis, otherwise I will need to have a D&C.

On the plus side, I healed nicely from the biopsy, and am back full steam at the gym. And there were no further episodes of PMB, which started this whole mess.

I did some research and really can't determine if the nodular lesion can be malignant if the endometrial sample is benign, and unless someone reading this can tell me, I will have to ask the doctor. It seems to me logically that since these lesions (polyps, or whatever) come from the endometrium, that its composition would be similar, but since I am not a scientist, I cannot possibly know this.

The waiting continues. Thanks so much for your kind words and support.

    Thank you!

I called again and spoke to the gal at the front desk, who will relay the message to the nurse since they are in a different office today. I'm sure everything is online, so hopefully, they will get back to me today.. If not, I will call again tomorrow. The biopsy was on 11/17. I'll post as soon as I know.

Thanks so very much for your kindness and compassion. Hugs to you all! Kiss

biopsy results good, awaiting follow up

    Hi again,

The nurse called me this afternoon and said that the pathology report for endometrial cancer was negative/benign, but the doctor needs to review my chart to decide what the proper follow up is since I still have something in there and there was PMB. I will share once I have more information, hopefully by the end of the week. I'm relieved, but need to remain vigilant.  Thank you all so much for your support. I will continue to be involved with this board because I want to be supportive, as well. Much appreicated. :-)
