Neck dissection discomfort - Found some help

I am only a couple of weeks out from a Supgraomohyoid Neck Dissection.  I have numbness, weird twinges, nerves jumping around, and a sensation that I have a tight noose around my neck.    I read the comments regarding massage being helpful.   So I had an idea given that I didn't have a masseuse handy.

I took a vibrator, and I wrapped it in a small heating pad.   OMG!   It was like heaven.    I still had pain around the scar with the incision so new, so the vibrator would have been too intense on the wound.   But wrapped in the heating pad, it was just a nice mild sensation.   Add penetraing heat, and it was a wonderful relief.

Just a helpful hint for those wanting a break from your weird neck sensation.

Best,

Laurie

    massage

    Laurie,

Neck massage for relief of edema can be extremely helpful.  It is normally, done by someone trained in H&N cancer and is very gentle, if anything.  The massage procedure can be learned by most anyone and is easy and safe to do.  I believe there is a link to the video in the Superthread and if not, readily found on YouTube.

Of course, you did not say yours was the results of radiation and the neck massage approach may be different.

Your solution is unique and sounds very effective.

    Vibrate on!

Thank you, Matt.   I will check into it.   I was just forwarding something that was easy, cheap and easily handled by yourself.
