How Careful to Be While Around Votrient Patient

My husband is currently taking Votrient for RCC. I was wondering how careful everyone is while being around their loved one. For instance, it has been suggested to wash his clothes separately and to wear gloves when handling his sheets etc. I want to handle this situation in the most loving way posssible but am also wanting to protect the future health of our family as well. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or advice that you have.

    How careful?

    I've been on Votrient for nearly a year.  I haven't been especially cautious about the drug ... meaning that my clothes aren't washed separately, and that sort of thing.  My oncologist hasn't talked about those sorts of precautions at all.  I'd be interested if others who are on Votrient have been advised to treat this medication with extreme care.

    I'm about to be put on Votrient and haven't had the "full briefing" yet with the doc, but this thread is the first I'd heard that there were any concerns of this type.

    I'll ask about it this week when I go in for my first dose and consultation with the doctors. I'll post anything I learn back here.

    Votrient

    My husband was on Votrient for awhile, had to stop due to severe side effects, never was told about precautions.

    Now he is infused with Opdivo and instructions say for first 48 hours he should flush toilet twice, use of gloves, for handling bedding and clothes if he was leaking bodily fluids, clothes and bedding should be done seperate and in very hot water only if he has  leaked any bodily fluids during first 48 hours.

    When I gave him his Votrient I would put on gloves before handling the pills, no one told me to do this but I didn't want to handle with my bare hands.

    I've never heard any of this before and I've been on Opdivo since January
