New Here awaiting results can anyone help

in Lymphoma (Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin) #1

Here's what I know. I've had a right groin lymph node/nodes swollen for about a year. Nobody got very excitied. I also have had a significant node behind my right ear the same time frame. Rubbery, firm. The groin nodes are significantly larger. No pain. However, over 6-8 months, I lost 49-52 lbs. While I had a divorce, it was past many months where I should now been eating. There is no appetite. The fullness of breath is overwhelming at times to the point I have to borrow my daughter's asthma (she's well Controlled) inhaler. As well, I have some strange symptoms like unrelenting itching skin, low back pain and fatigue worse than I have with my MS and Lupus and Sgrojens. I've been bruising up like a peach and having awful headaches from a current bout with Retrobulbar Optic Neuritis which has had me on 5 days of home IV solu-medrol and now I'm on a 25 days prednisone taper po. So I had the ultrasound and based on the size of the nodes and coupled with my night sweats, weight loss, sweating, trouble breathing, he wanted to do the excisional node biopsy. That was Friday. I was supposed to hear today and have not. Any thoughts?!!!!

    Welcome, Kristi.

    You have a lot of issues running at once, among the longest list of non-cancerous problems I can recall in a writer here.  It is conceivable that some of them,like the lumpus, could be confusing the issue a little, but you for certain needed the biopsy to determine this. They are relatively inexpensive and essential for a definitive diagnosis.

    I have always had to wait at least a week or more for biopsy results; it is just the state of pathology at present.

    Be aware in advance that if it is lymphoma, then virtually all strains are either curable or very redily controllable.  A lymphoma diagnosis, even at stage IV, is almost never an immediate emergency.  There are 5 main forms of Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL), and around 40 readily recognizable common strains of non-Hodgkin's (NHL), so diagnosis varies a lot by strain, all the way from very indolent to aggressive.

    Please share what you learn, since you do have an assortment of classic symptoms,

    Thank you so much for your reply. These steroids keep me awake and paranoid!! As soon as I know something, I will post. Thank you for your support and advice. I am clueless

    A person who has been through what you have been through has more medical awareness than you realize.

    The biopsy will tell all, and there is little reason to speculate at the present.   Note that it is after 3:00 AM Eastern time. I just got home and am headed to bed. Others will write in the morning I am certain. You have information and support available here,

    Two autoimmune diseases?

    Both can explain some or all of your symptoms. Or, it could still be yet another direction that your immune system is attacking. Could it be lymphoma? Sure, but lymphoma that is so slow growing is not an emergency, and if it is found, treatment must then be coordinated with your other conditions. Just keep the calls going in, to remain on the front burner.

    Have patience

    it takes a while for the results because there are so many lymphomas. I am in remission from Classic Hodgkins. The right side of my neck was huge with cancer. It took four chemo treatments and the mass on my neck was gone. Be concerned but not afraid. It's highly treatable!
