Is there any connection between RCC and auto immune diseases?

I have Hashimotos disease. Diagnosed about 6 years ago. I also have essential thrombocytosis which means I have a high platelet count. I have wondered myself if autoimmune has had a role in cancer.

However, the point is if we do not keep our immune system healthy, watch the chemicals we put in our bodies, then INFLAMMATION, coupled with weakened immune system, and  you will see DIS-EASE!

If there is GOUT=inflammation out of control.

If there is GERD or any gut-type symtpoms, shows our immune system is reacting to the types of foods we eat=American diet.

BTW Icemantoo, I have many of the syptoms of Sjogrens but not the markers. It is called SICCA syndrome and the symptoms are treatable with Restasis (for eyes) Pilocarpine (for dry mouth) and mineral oil for ears.

I am having an ultrasound Friday  for a nodule and also having blood work for thyroid next week.

Just last week my doctor ordered labs looking for thyroid auto immune disorders, the 2 biggies being Hashimoto's and Graves.  Happy to say my tests came back negative.  I have a history of a thyroid nodule that seems to be acting up.  I'm told nodule's are fairly common but more are better and my previous ultrasounds & biopsies only show one and it's 1.6 cm.  Yesterday I had an ultrasound and needless to say I'm in the midst of anxiety.....what do you can it when it's not related to a scan?....can't call it scanxiety, maybe ultraxiety?

My husband was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis (an auto immune disease) 15 years ago. He had bad initial symptoms but has been symptom free for the last 13 years. He has had trouble with gout for the past 3 or 4 years. His diagnosis of stage IV RCC came a few months ago. He had no apparent symptoms and it was found incidentally after an accident. I personally do wonder if there is a connection. Would love to learn more.

I read some literatures from a few wellknown professors/oncologists from Japan, and they believe cancer itself is a product from a weaken or malfunction immune system. Mutated cell is supposed to be destroy by the T-cells naturally, it becomes tumor because the immune system failed to identify the mutated cells and sometimes even helping those cells to grow. Auto immune disease happens when the immune system being over reacted, it can also be a side effect from immunotherapy. In Japan, some hospital use herbal med to boost the patients' immune system before and after surgery to fight against the disease along side with other treatments. That's the resaon if the immunotherapy is responding well to a patient, useful the effect will last.

I come from a family where both auto-immune disorders (thyroid, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) and cancer are ubiquitous, across many generations.  I am one of several family members who have both diseases.  There is an environmental component (we were exposed to some of the same triggers) as well as a genetic component (the genetic vulnerability to a trigger).   I would like to say that it's a coincidence.  If it is the case, how do we know which gene(s) create the vulnerability and which environmental factors are the triggers?  How do we change either genetics or environment to decrease morbidity and mortality for those of use at risk?
