Should have listened
I should have listened to the advice from each of you. I had a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy on August 26 and recovery was uneventful---my wife made sure that I took it easy. The doctor recommended 6 weeks without lifting and running. Well, at exactly six weeks (a week ago Saturday)I laced up my running shoes and went for a run. I only made it a mile and then I walked briskly for a couple more. I did this every day last week. This past weekend I started noticing a sharp pain on my right side between the surgical cuts. The pain is not throughout my abdomin--it has a very precise spot on my right side. The pain is not constant and it is not crippling, but it can take my breath away if I move just the right way. It's my own fault for being overzealous in my need to run. I really felt great and my body was itching for a run. There is no bruising around my abdomin where the pain is, so I'm thinking I didn't tear something (badly). My plan is to give it a few days and and see if it gets better. If not, I'll give the doctor a call. Any of you have experience in pushing a little too much or just some strange pains as I describe? Input is welcomed and I PROMISE to listen this time.
Thanks,

Been there, done that
In my case, I was 2 weeks post-op, my first day feeling so good, I decided to do a load of laundry. (I had front loaders at the time). Boy, was I stupid. I ended up in the ER that night because I almost passed out from an intense sharp pain. Luckily I didn't do any real damage just a set back. Yeah, you kind of need to ease back into your normal routine. If it continues, I would definitely just touch base with your doctor for a professional opinion.
Best wishes,
Donna~

I had no similar experience,
I had no similar experience, but a friend of mine ended up in ER after laparoscopic surgery (performed for another reasons). She lifted some heavier bags sooner than necessary. Was bleeding and in terrible pain.

Feeling better
Wow, Allochka. I'm glad I didn't do that. Like I said, my wife really kept an eye on me and made sure I didn't overdo it. It was hard to not "do" things, but I worked through it in my recovery. Today I am feeling much better. The pain has subsided and isn't nearly as sharp as it was the past couple days. I'm taking it easy, which seems to help. No more running until I get clearance from my doctor. Thanks for the input to you and Donna. Much appreciated.

May I ask, are you back at work? If so how are you getting on?

I am working. Like we discussed in an earlier post about our positions in K-12 education, I'm able to take care of more of the paperwork that is required as an administrator. So, I've been at my desk more than usual this week. For the most part the pain is completely gone. I did get a little scared this past weekend. I certainly thought I had done something that I shouldn't have. After running each day last week, I still felt good. Then my family met my younger brother and his family for a weekend get-away. They have a little boy that we adore. When we saw each other he came running and jabbed me in the stomach right where my surgery was. I'm not sure which caused the pain; my running or his jab. Nevertheless I'm doing much better. Thank you for checking on me.
Good luck with your upcoming scans. Hoping for the best.

Stubbs, you're not sure what caused the pain, the running or the jab?! GAH! I think I'd vote 80%for the jab, 20% for the running.
But then, I'm kind of supportive of getting out and putting in some miles, as soon as is reasonable...
Take it easy - !
