Chemo update

in Uterine/Endometrial Cancer #1

I have not logged in a couple of weeks. Just read through the new messages. Thought i'd give you an update on my mum's chemo also. She has had 2 chemo so far. Just carboplatin. It has been quite difficult 6 weeks so far. First chemo resulted in a clot near her heart so she was hospitalised. Her normal heart rate is very high now as the breathing is affecting her heart. Then her blood counts were very low so the second treatment was delayed. So far she has not felt any improvement in her breathing. Her cancer is quite heavily spread through her lungs. Not sure if she should have felt better by now? She is due for next chemo in one week. Hoping she is ok this time to receive it. Today she got a constant chest pain. Gave her pain killers for now. Will take her to hospital if no improvement. Trying to stay positive and taking each moment at a time. Cancer really sucks! So looking forward to the day cancer cure is discovered and this discussion board is no longer required!!

    I'm so sorry to hear your mother has had such a difficult time. I hope the treatments get easier. She's very fortunate to have you for a daughter!!!!

    Chemo update

    Hello Diya,

    I too am sorry your mother is having such a bad time with the chemo. I too had Carboplatin and Taxol it was tough to say the least.

    Have you read anything on the new lazer knife/ cyber knife for lung mets its  just a thought.

    Let us know how your mother gets on wishing her a speedy recovery from the clot. I got multiple lung clots and survived

    I sure would like a cure from cancer too. Im so sorry that chemo has been hard on your mum.  Im glad your taking it a moment at a time.  That truely does help dealing with this crazy cancer.  Im so glad your mum is making progress.  Chemo number 3 comming up.  Way to go!!!

    We don't refer to it as a battle for nothing!

    You and your mom are showing such courage and strength! It is so tough to get through chemo treatments under the best of circumstances and that much harder with other issues to cope with such as your mother has. She is so blessed to have your support as she fights her battle. Sending you both my thoughts and prayers for the stamina to get through this difficult time.

    Your mom is so lucky to have you for support! It probably means more to her than you can ever imagine! Praying that her next treatment doesn't have as terrible effects.

    I can't say how sorry I am to hear about your Mom's chemo troubles.  I agree with others, she is so lucky to have you at her side battling this thing!  You'll get through it...stay strong.  Hope all goes well this next time.  Sending love and hugs to both of you. ~LL

    Almost time right?

    Just thinking about the upcoming treatment- hope all goes well- I wont ever forget how we felt the day we were turned away because my levels had fallen so low.  They gave me a neupogen shot on Fri and by Wed I was able to do my treatment and didn't have another delay til the very last one but they gave it to me anyway since it was the last.  Prayers and thoughts go with you both- know it isn't easy but you will make it through.   (((HUGS)))

    Hoping your mom is feeling a little better by now and is able to get her next chemo.  I had so much trouble with low platelets that my doctor finally just started scheduling my infusions every four weeks instead of three.  When I was sent home because they were to low, I kind of felt like a naughty school,girl being sent home.  Sending hugs and prayers to both,of you, Lou Ann

    Thanks. I researched a bit on neupogen. It is used to increase neutrophils. Mum's neutrophils are fine. Its her platelates that are low. Do you remember what was low in your case?

    Just remembered

    Daylady's naturopath had her spray cold-pressed organic sesame oil over her body to raise her platelets.  She said the count doubled in a week.  Sounds like it might be a simple and easy thing to try?

    Yes, neutrophils

    You are correct- it was my neutrophils.  My platelates didn't start to fall til toward the end but never got to a point where they had to do anything.

    Maybe someone else will have a better more fitting answer for your mom's situation.  (((HUGS)))
