    Any reputable medical
Any reputable medical organization that claims 98% results in their clinical trials for a cure for Esophageal Cancer would raise a red flag in my book, knowing what I already know about the cancer.

I know nothing about the organization you mention, nor anything about their claims - but it concerns me when I see claims like this made to people facing such desperate situations to try some "special cure" for cancer. I fear that people are trying to profit off the fear and desperation of people fighting to live and beat cancer and in some instances the delay in treatment or break in treatment could end up costing a life (See the story about Steve Jobs and his delay in treatment to seek some experimental alternative treatment before getting treated by his medical doctors and the real possibility that the delay may have ultimately cost him his life).

I am all for seeking out clinical trials, incorporating diet and vitamins and throwing the kitchen sink at this monster - and even trying experimental treatments if the patient wants to and feels there are no other options available. But someone saying they have a 98% results - (and what kind of results do they mean)- for Espohageal Cancer that just makes me wonder.

    Humm
I would think with these stated results, major medical and specifically cancer related periodicals would have front covers touting this treatment. As an EC patient I read alot about what is in the pipeline, haven't seen anything on this. I would be more than skeptical and surely would not discontinue my current chemo program that has kept me alive 18 months. Sam

    Hello mishti.

    Kiran

    Kiran~FYI~Mishti hasn't been here in 3 years~Can N E 1 help U?

    Hello Kiran -

"Mishti" and I corresponded way back when she was posting here first in 2011.  Mishti hasn't been active here since April of 2013.  That was over 3 years ago. That is why I answer you today. I never like to see a person post here and no one responds. Often times, if a person has no particular experience with the subject matter presently being posted, they feel they cannot be helpful.

Often persons here correspond with each other via private CSN Email.  You may "click" on her name in the blue box and send her a private message.  If she is still reading here, she may answer, but I fear that her father has passed on as have so many others that we have corresponded with through the years.   That is so often the case.

For other's information, anytime you wish to correspond with someone that has an "older" date, please click on the "blue box" and you will see two pieces of information.  You will see when they signed on and when they last posted anything.  That's how I know that Mishti no longer corresponds here.

In all my research, I have found nothing that is a "cure" for Esophageal Cancer period.  Depending on the stage, chemotherapy, radiation and surgery have often been successful, but always with the possibility of recurrence.  Unfortunately, this is a rare cancer afflicting more and more people today than ever before, but so far there are "no magic cures" either traditional or non-conventional.  But of course, we don't discount "miracles" because the power of Almighty God is limitless.  But each person must be convinced in their own mind that they have done all they can do when they, or one of their loved ones, has been diagnosed with this awful cancer.

Since I don't know your particular situation, or reason for inquiring, this is all that I can offer in the way of help.

    Sincerely,

Loretta (William's wife)  William was diagnosed back in 2002 (Esophageal Cancer, Stage III (T3N1M0).  He had a successful Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on May 17, 2003, performed by Dr. James D. Luketich.  We are still celebrating a remission from that day to this, thank the Lord.

Kiran~CSN has chosen 2 "review" my reply 2 U for some reason?

Hi Kiran~ I have replied to your short letter of today.  I have sent you some references relative to "round cell tumor."  However, when I hit "submit", I got a note from the CSN folks that said that my letter would have to be "read first" before they would post it.  My letters are usually long, compassionate and informative, so I certainly hope that this site has no problem with that.  So hopefully, they will PRINT my reply to you soon.  I'm sorry to know that your family has been touched by cancer.

Kiran~Haunting words are "they have done all they could"

    Dear Kiran:

This is the first time I have read about anyone writing here with “round cell tumor.”  So I looked up a few references that may relate to the diagnosis your brother has.  May as well say it, I don’t like anything I read about this cancer!  All I can say is that I’m so sorry to hear that your brother has Stage IV Cancer of any kind.

I write here often since my husband is a survivor thus far of Esophageal Cancer, Stage III, (T3N1M0).  But in 2012, I, myself, was diagnosed first with Peritoneal Carcinomatosis which is a Stage IV diagnosis.  Then a 2nd opinion found that it was in my ovaries as well.  So regardless of whether the cancer spread from the ovaries to the Peritoneal fluid in my abdomen, or vice versa, I started out at the “advanced stage.”  So the most I can hope for is that I will have some good long periods of time in between the further progression to even more organs.  I’m sure you hope for the same for your brother. When one family member hurts, the whole family hurts.

Perhaps someone else who reads this site may have some knowledge and/or experience with this particular cancer.  I understand that it is really rare.  I’m sorry for your brother and other members of your family that have to cope with this disease.  I am sorry that I can’t be more helpful.

      Loretta

P.S.  I did look up the words “round cell tumor” and there were lots of articles to read, but none were filled with great news I am sorry to say.  But I will share them with you.  Perhaps you can branch out from there and learn more if you haven’t done a ton of research already.

    • Mesothelioblastoma

What is Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor? (Definition/Background Information)

Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor (DSRCT) is an extremely infrequent, aggressive soft tissue tumor

    • They are regarded as a kind of high-grade malignant cancer that spreads and infiltrates into the surrounding tissues and organs. Generally, the outcome for an individual with this disorder is poor
    • DSRCT usually affects young children and adults. These tumors are normally located deep inside the body tissues, with common sites being the abdomen and pelvis region. Other locations include the lung, scalp, hand, and pancreas
    • Any combination of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and invasive procedures, are used to treat DSRCT

Who gets Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor? (Age and Sex Distribution)

Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor primarily affects young children (boys) and young men, in the 10-30 years age group. Middle-aged and elderly adults are typically not affected

    • Males are much more affected than females. Some reports indicate a male-female ratio of 5:1, while others studies report a higher frequency in males with a male-female ratio of 9:1
    • Caucasian males are known to be affected the most - no other specific racial or ethnic preferences have been observed..."

Desmoplastic small round cell tumour (DSRCT) is a rare but highly aggressive neoplasm that typically occurs in adolescent and young males. An earlier study has found a male-to-female ratio of approximately 5 to 1 and a mean age at diagnosis of 22 years [1]. First described in 1989, it is characterised by clusters of poorly differentiated small round blue cells lying within an abundant fibrosclerotic stroma [2]. These cells co-express epithelial, mesenchymal, myogenic and neural markers [3], but are distinguished by the chromosomal translocation t(11;22)(p13;q12) resulting in the fusion of the Ewing’s sarcoma (EWSR1) and the Wilms’ tumour (WT1) genes [4]. DSRCT generally develops in the abdomen and have a tendency towards peritoneal spread, with subsequent metastasis to distant lymph nodes, liver and lungs [5]…”

Kiran~CSN obviously has me on a "Watch list"- Go figure!

    Good morning Kiran -

CSN reviewed my letter and found nothing wrong with it, so they published it yesterday.  Then I noticed I had misspelled your name as "Kliran".  When I went to correct it and submit the correction, once again they REMOVED the letter.

"Your comment has been queued for review by site administrators and will be published after approval."

So here is the notice I received just now when trying to answer you this morning.  The last thing Stage IV cancer patients need is extra aggravation from a source that is supposed to be designed for patients to confer and get help from one another.

Here's my morning message for the third time.  So it's obvious, my name is on a "watch list" much like a terrorist one would suppose.  And this may not go through either!'

    Apologies - Loretta

Kiran~One more attempt to send U a message

    Hello again Kiran -

Here is the message I received from CSN security yesterday.  But of course, today, I'm "restricted" again.  This is the message:

"Hi Loretta, I'm so sorry that your post was chosen for review. We are currently experiencing this kind of technical issue and IT is looking into it. Of course your post has now been published. Again, I'm very sorry for this inconvenience. Thank you for being such a valuable member of the CSN community!

    Best Regards..."

So let's see if at least the links that I provided to you in my letter will be rejected also.  Here are the links minus my personal comments.  I am so sorry for "THEIR INCONVENIENT" removal of patient correspondence.  It seems if my name had been cleared yesterday, and the letter was "approved", why remove it again today?

As for my progress, the most all Stage IV cancer patients can hope for is that the progression of the cancer that is in more than one organ will grow "slowly" instead of rapidly.  Therefore, giving us a bit more quality of life in between treatments.  Cancer affects the whole family and is truly a heartbreak, regardless of the stage, but especially for those of us who have Stage IV as palliative measures are the most we have to hope for.

I will be having a PET/CT scan this afternoon to monitor my further progression.  With my tumor markers rising, I'm sure the news will be obvious.  And I will pray, yes I said pray, and that may be a politically-incorrect word on this site, and that's a pity if it is, that I will be able to have some choices from which to choose going forward.  I will know the results when I meet with my oncologist this Friday.  Nevertheless, since there is no cure, I always "pray" that I will make the wisest choice that will give me more quality of my remaining days.   No one wants to leave those we love so much.  I know how you feel about your brother's cancer diagnosis of "round cell tumor" as well.  One of my brothers died in 2010 with Stage IV cancer (Mesothelioma).  We still miss him.

Praying for your brother, you and all your lovely family,

    Loretta

P.S.  I did look up the words “round cell tumor” and there were lots of articles to read, but none were filled with great news I am sorry to say.  But I will share them with you.  Perhaps you can branch out from there and learn more if you haven’t done a ton of research already.
